No sound on Fedora 32 on RASPI4
by Andreas Reschke
Hello,
Fedora 32 aarch64 with XFCE runs smoothly on my Raspi4. Everything is
working fine except sound. I can't hear anything with my headphone
plugged in .
The pavumeter is working.
I want to use this Raspberry for Multimedia streaming on TV.
BTW: Sound via Bluetooth is working fine.
Greeting

Boot AARCH64 PXE images on Raspberry Pi 3B+/4B
by Felix Geschwindner
Hey ARM people,
A while back I was working on netbooting Fedora 30 on the Raspberry Pi 3B+ and I eventually got it working by TFTP loading U-Boot first, then loading GRUB2 as the EFI executable and then having GRUB2 load vmlinuz and initrd.img to get the kickstart install going.
The same sequence currently doesn't work on the RPI 4. I'm using a 4GB Rev 1.2 RPI4B:
GRUB2 can't load vmlinuz or initrd.img over HTTP. Taking a tcpdump of the connection, there is a ton of un-acked as well as retried packets in the dump. Loading the images via TFTP works but when GRUB2 is loading them the whole system just freezes. No console output no DHCP discovers getting to my DHCP server, no nothing.
So I started working towards removing GRUB2 and U-Boot from the process. I'm using the kernel + initrd from here: https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/development/32/Everything/a...
Initially start4x.elf wasn't able to boot vmlinuz at all but then I decompressed the gzipped vmlinuz and the kernel started loading.
The next issue was that the default initrd.img file seems to be too large for the RPI. When downloading, it's about 69MB in size but the kernel seems to only see ~64MB:
[ 0.869951] Trying to unpack rootfs image as initramfs...
[ 23.568924] Initramfs unpacking failed: XZ-compressed data is corrupt
[ 23.626382] Freeing initrd memory: 65532K
I de-compressed the image and re-compressed it on XZ level 9 and managed squish it down to 63MB which got me further.
[ 0.873159] Trying to unpack rootfs image as initramfs...
[ 22.872413] Freeing initrd memory: 63896K
Now the kernel is loading all the way until it's trying to load the stage2 image install.img as well as the kickstart script from network but gets a dracut timeout.
I'm seeing a couple of errors in the DMESG output that hint at some important things going wrong:

You might want to save "/run/initramfs/rdsosreport.txt" to a USB stick or /boot
after mounting them and attach it to a bug report.
I tried using DTBs and firmware from the official Raspberry Pi repository as well as the ones from the boot volume in the aarch64 Fedora Minimal Spin image. Neither made a difference.
So I have 3 questions at this point:
1. Is anyone aware of the 64MB initramfs limit that I'm seeing? Anyway to get around that? This doesn't seem to be an issue in the x86 architecture.
2. What's the story around U-Boot? What is it providing to the kernel that the RPI bootloader can't or doesn't provide?
3. Kernel 5.6 should have support for VL805 chip. Why does it fail loading it?
Thanks guys!

fdisk -l on Fedora aarch64 ISO failed
by 吴斌(郅隆)
Hi guys,
I tried fdisk -l Fedora-Server-dvd-aarch64-28-1.1.iso
It failed to list partition table information.
but if change to x86 iso, like Fedora-Server-dvd-x86_64-28-1.1.iso.
It can list partition information like below:
Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
Fedora-Server-dvd-x86_64-28-1.1.iso1 * 0 5670911 5670912 2.7G 0 Empty
Fedora-Server-dvd-x86_64-28-1.1.iso2 19664 38319 18656 9.1M ef EFI (FAT-12/16/32)
So, How Can I list partition table on aarch64 ISO?
Do I need to repack a new aarch64 ISO that support to list partition table?
Appreciate your help.

Bin Wu

Fedora 32 on RPI4
by Andreas Reschke
Hello together,
I've Fedora 32 (beta) updated from Rawhide. The only kernel that boots
correct is: 5.6.0-0.rc2.git0.1.fc32.aarch64
every newer kernel didn't find the root (/) UUID. Even the actual kernel
5.6.0-300.fc32
[root@fedora-raspi4 ~]# lsblk -f
NAME FSTYPE FSVER LABEL UUID
FSAVAIL FSUSE% MOUNTPOINT

Are there any tips and tricks to boot with more up2date kernel?
Thanks

I want to help Fedora Project with ARM
by Jeffrey Serio
Hello,
I'd love to help out my favorite Linux distribution and get low-level
development experience. In particular, I'm interested in working on U-Boot
to get it to boot Fedora aarch64 on a RockPro64. I have a Bachelor of
Science in computer science, so I know how to code. I've used Java, Python,
and C#.
I'm looking for someone willing to be a sort of part-time mentor; i.e. they
wouldn't have to hold my hand, but at least help me get started in setting
up an ARM/U-Boot development environment and answering questions I would
have about U-Boot.
Cheers,
Jeffrey

Building fedora-arm images
by Fabrizio D'Angelo
Hello,
I'm part of a systems programming group at the University of
Massachusetts Lowell.
We're using Fedora and Raspberry Pis as part of an introductory IoT course.
Right now we're using an install script to set up fedora-arm-minimal
images (found here:
https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora-secondary/releases/31/Spins/aarch...).
We would really benefit from building our own Fedora 31 images for the
RPi as that would reduce a lot of overhead for us when testing, as well
as reducing overhead for the instructors and students when setting up
RPis for the first time.
We've tried image-factory, livemedia-creator, appliance-tools, oz... No
luck with anything yet.
We started this project in September 2019 and building custom images is
the one thing we have made no progress on.
I'm sure there is some known combination of scripts/programs, hardware,
and operating system that was used to produce the Fedora-Minimal images
we've been working from.
Is there anyone on this list that has that information or knows where I
could find it?
Thank you,
Fabrizio
