nmcli dev show eno2 question
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
nmcli dev show eno2
Give me tons of wonderful information about my interface.
Missing is:
network (192.168.1.0 etc.)
broadcast (192.168.1.255 etc.)
Any way to get nmcli to cough them up?
Many thanks,
-T
p.s, the "network" is not always the lowest
address in the subnet mask. At&t fiber
likes to reverse the network and the
broadcast address.

Adding file swap on btrfs
by Neal Becker
I've just installed f37 on a new lenovo x1 carbon.
One thing, the installation didn't setup any swap (other than zswap).
After a bit of reading I found
sudo btrfs filesystem mkswapfile -s 32G /swapfile
But:
sudo swapon -v /swapfile
swapon: /swapfile: found signature [pagesize=4096, signature=swap]
swapon: /swapfile: pagesize=4096, swapsize=1073741824, devsize=34359738368
Although I created 32G swapfile, only 1G is used.
swapon
NAME TYPE SIZE USED PRIO
/dev/zram0 partition 8G 6.3M 100
/swapfile file 1024M 0B -2
What's wrong?
Thanks,
Neal

Tip: how to make your own resolv.conf
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
If you are tired of all the bugs and Micky Mouse
surrounding /etc/resolv.conf, here is how to make
your own that Micky can't alter:
-T
How to make your own permanent entries in /etc/resolv.conf
1) remove resolvconf and systemd-resolved
# dnf remove resolvconf systemd-resolved
2) /etc/resolv.conf is a link:
# readlink /etc/resolv.conf.000
../run/NetworkManager/resolv.conf
Rename it:
# mv /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf.000
3) create your own resolv.conf file
# vi /etc/resolv.conf.rn
For example:
# alternate resolv.conf to get around FC37 micky mouse
#
# nameserver 8.8.8.8
# nameserver 208.67.222.123
# nameserver 127.0.0.1
nameserver 192.168.250.10
options edns0 trust-ad
# search .

fwupd broke my wifi on new laptop
by Neal Becker
Brand new lenovo x1 carbon.
Today the "discover" sw update app suggest fw updates. I went ahead with
them. Now wifi isn't working properly. At boot, I get a hang on
Job NetworkManager-wait-online.service/start running
Then it will finish boot after some time, but only 2.4G wifi works. It
won't connect to my 5GHz wifi, although it is detected.
I tried an older kernel but got same results.
I just received this laptop yesterday, I suppose I could try to return it.
But is there maybe someway to revert the firmware updates? Or any other
ideas?
Thanks,
Neal

OT: Can Fedora upgrade firmware on WD SSD drives?
by Michael D. Setzer II
Contacted them, since web site seemed to only have
option to upgrade firmware using a windows program?
Got a reply that that is currently the case, and only option
would be to install windows on machine, or remove drive
and put in windows machine to upgrade??
I've got 5 Linux machines at home that all have WD SSD
drives, and a few of the earlier ones have older firmware
that others of the same model..
Don't know if makes any real difference or what
improvements firmware updates would do. Kind of
disappointed that they don't have a Linux option.
Have used my Linux based G4L program to image old
drives to the SSD drives with no problems, and had heard
good things on the drives.
Wonder if someone knows of an option. Don't know if
windows program to update firmware might work with
wine or not??
Thanks.

FC37 corked my passive FTP, nf_conntrack_helper vanished
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
# uname -r
6.0.12-300.fc37.x86_64
I have tried googling this. I get tons of hits
but nothing specific to FC37.
Just noticed that I can not do:
$ curl -v ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/AcrobatDC/ -o -
* Connecting to 192.147.130.111 (192.147.130.111) port 18897
Connection timed out
(The above is a simplification of what I am actually
running, but it shows the problem well,)
FC 37 corked my iptables passive FTP rules, which worked
perfectly under FC36
Error message when restarting my iptables firewall:

Some other data, just in case you ask:

old system -centos 6 -- trying to fix a disk/partition/vol issue
by bruce
Hi.
I know. centos6 is dead/buried/reincarnated.
However, I have a very old box that I haven't touched in a bit.
I had created a /media/TestDir using part of the drive. As I recall,
it had been working. However, when I turned it on earlier, something
happened, (i think the cat hit the cord!). I rebooted and got a msg
about the /media/foo not being able to resolve and therefore not boot.
I did a quick comment out of the offending line in the fstab. Rebot
was successful.
Now, I'm wondering how to get the fstab /media/foo back with the
underlying files. I assume the files are still on the "drive". As a
matter of fact, just fired up gparted, and it shows the partition
/dev/sda4 as et4 with a Label of "TestDir".
This was the line in the /etc/fstab file
##LABEL=/media/TestDir /media/TestDir ext4 defaults 1 2
This is more a curiosity than anything.
thanks..
