6.0.18 missing HDMI sound
by Eyal Lebedinsky
I am on f36, was running kernel 6.0.15 and did a 'dnf update' which installed 6.0.18.
On boot I had no HDMI sound, only line-out (which was plugged in) had sound.
Looking at the logs (grep 'sound') I see in 6.0.15
2023-01-13T11:08:16+1100 kernel: input: HDA Intel PCH Front Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.3/sound/card0/input14

but in 6.0.18:

2023-01-13T11:07:22+1100 systemd[1]: Stopped target sound.target - Sound Card.
You will notice the missing last two HDMI devices.
Looking at PulseAudio I see that the one HDMI that I usually use:
Digital Stereo (HDMI3) Output + Analog Stereo Input
is now unavailable:
Digital Stereo (HDMI3) Output + Analog Stereo Input (unavailable)
I rebooted again into 6.0.18 with no sound again. Booted 6.0.15 and sound is back.
Is there a simple way to get HDMI sound back with 6.0.18? I hate running a kernel older than the rest of the distro.
What other info will help?

tigervnc fails with "Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make

Hi,
I have a fedora37 desktop install with tigervnc-server and can't get it to
start. I'd like it to start on system boot.
I've followed the HOWTO.md as well as numerous examples online, and can't
figure out what's wrong. I've set the vncpasswd for the user listed in
vncserver.users.

6.0.16-200.fc36.x86_64 crash
by Roger Wells
I boot from the latest kernel (subject) then mount a shared directory on
a RHEL 7.9 host.
As soon as I access any file or directory on the shared directory the my
machine instantly & completely freezes.
Even the clock on the top bar stops, cursor stops blinking, and other
pc's cannot ping this one.
If I reboot to 6.0.15-200.fc36.x86_64, no problem.
Also noted that another shared directory on another pc (not sure what
OS) works fine.
Just wondering what I should try next?

I had already tried it on 6.0.17, and yes it is rectified.
What is not rectified is 6.0.18 does not resolve the issue found in
6.0.17 (it may be in earlier kernels as well but I haven't tested those)
of the system shutdown being hung for a minute and a half by the cifs
unmount process if the device disappears underneath the running system.

Help Needed With Netflix Video Playing Failure
by Stephen Morris
Hi,
I have installed the netflix app via snap. When I run the app the
highlight video shown at the top of the video list plays correctly and
the thumb nail videos of all the videos also plays correctly, but if I
attempt to actually stream any of the videos they fail with the message
"Please visit chrome://settings/content/protectedContent and make sure
'Sites can play protected content' is selected" and also shows "Error
code M7701-1003". I have checked the specified settings in Chrome and
Firefox (which is my default browser) and the Play Protected content
settings are active in both.
If I go to www.netflix.com.au in my browsers and login all the
videos stream fine without any issues. I did find a suggestion on the
net to set the video settings in my netflix profile to medium but doing
that makes no difference to the issue.
Does anyone have any ideas on what the issue with the snap netflix
app could be and how I fix the issue?

Steve
