Is this possible?: Convert /dev/sdd[1-5] Ext4 => /dev/sdd [btrfs -
whole disk] - without losing data in sdd5 (old /home)

I have been using Fedora since Core 1 and still have the old HDs and I
have kept using ext[234] FSs just for simplicity / consistency up to the
current time (F39) - but now I want to experiment with btrfs and I was
thinking I could go through the exercise of converting an old SATA boot
drive where I am still using /dev/sdd5 (the old /home partition) as one
of a few backup partitions / drives for current live data from my
workstation and some small servers.
At first I was thinking I could delete ext4 parts 1-4, replace them with
a new btrfs partition and then maybe somehow use btrfs-convert to
integrate the remaining ext4 part 5 into the new part 1? . . but what I
really want to do is create a new btrfs using the _whole_ of the disk -
but somehow avoid having to spend a LONG time copying back about 4TB (to
the 8TB drive) - the only way I could see that possibility working is to
somehow do a recovery on the rest of the disk after the newly-created
btrfs only takes up part of the beginning of the disk but leaves the old
ext4 dirs and files recoverable somehow from near the beginning of the
disk to just past halfway on the disk . .
This is just an interesting idea for experimenting with - it is not the
end of the world if it is not possible or if it might be possible but
difficult and I crash the drive in the experiment . .
Any feedback / comments from HD gurus appreciated!

Mouse not working on one USB port that still supports stick
attachment

Been having a problem here for a couple days now that I am not figuring
out...
A couple days ago, my mouse stopped working on the only right side USB
port. It is a traveler Verbatim optical mouse; nothing special.
It works in either of the left ports, but it is a pain to wrap the
retracting cord around the notebook.
The port is not "dead". I can attach a USB drive stick or my Samsung
phone just fine. But no mouse.
I am not interested in rebooting to see if that fixes things. At least
until I get back home in a couple days.
How might I trouble shoot this and maybe fix it without a reboot (if
that will even fix the problem)?

ssh forced command in syslog?

Hi,
I'm trying to use the "command=" ability with ssh and rsync to restrict the
commands that can be run with a passwordless ssh key. The problem is that I
can't figure out the exact rsync that's being executed on the remote side.
I recall in the past being able to somehow log this information to syslog,
but now I can't remember and can't find it.
Does anyone know how to do this?
I recall it being related to LogLevel and SyslogFacility, but I must be
missing something.
The rsync command I'm running on the local side is:
$ rsync -a -e 'ssh -i /path/to/private-key' /path/to/local/files
host:/path/to/dest/
The contents of my /root/.ssh/authorized_keys for the command I want to
execute is something like this:
command="/usr/bin/rsync --server --sender -logDtprze.iLs --numeric-ids .
/",no-port-forwarding,no-agent-forwarding,no-X11-forwarding,no-pty ssh-rsa
AAAAB3NzaC1yc2EAAAADAQABAAABAQC....
I want to upgrade this to instead use an ed25519 key and define a more
specific path.
I've also tried the SSH_ORIGINAL_COMMAND environment variable, but it
doesn't seem to be set.

Does anyone have digitalocean (DO) experience creating
droplets/snapshots/cloning etc.
I'm thinking of doing tests with the platform. Wanted to ask specific questions.
The questions have more to do with actual steps to "clone" a given
"droplet" than Fedora itself.

I did not clone the Fedora installation till today. I had tried to boot the kernels 6.6.X series 6.6.3/6.6.4 and now 6.6.6-200* on a sdd I had on the computer. When I noticed that clonezilla recognized the nvme devices, I decided to clone it and successfully booted with 6.5.12-200 kernel. Tried 6.6.6 on it and it did not work.

6.6.x kernels do not boot successfully

Dear kind Fedora users,
When there was a kernel upgrade from 6.5.12 to 6.6.2, the 6.6.2-*fc39 kernel, the 6.6.3*, and 6.6.4*.fc39 kernel fail to boot. Machine just hangs. It used to just work great. Now the machine hangs and I have to install updates and exclude the kernels with sudo dnf upgrade --exclude=kernel* .
I have successfully run the 6.6.x Fedora kernels on a raspberry pi 4. So I know those kernels work, except on that machine. If I install the new kernels, boot hangs indefinitely with no response. I will like to find out how I can check what is going on and successfully boot a newer 6.6.x kernels. I can send information for machine. It is a Dell XPS 8950 or something like that.

GPT/MBR what does fedora use for raspberry pi 39

Dear fellow Fedora users,
I am trying to back up/clone/save an image of a raspberry pi 4 machine running Fedora 39. It reports an error that GPT/MBR mismatch :
This disk contains mismatched GPT and MBR partion: /dev/mmcblk0
I am doubting what to do, as I have tried to clone Fedora raspberry pi installations and have not succeeded. How can I tell what type it is ?

BTW, a 6.6.x kernel did successfully boot on the machine, but the message was too large and needs moderator approval. I can attach small bits, but it reports an nvme( which is the windows install which I have not used ).

Mozilla VPN

I've decided to try a new VPN provider, and figured I'd give Mozilla's
offering a go.
They have a client for Ubuntu, but nothing for Fedora.
I tried installing using the instuctions from this website:
https://blog.radwell.codes/2021/12/install-mozilla-vpn-rpm-from-binary-on...
Seemed like a solid way to go about it from the Mozilla github pages,
but the end result installs but only gives a blank window when run
from the GUI. There is a command line interface, but none of what I
tried worked, although I'm still making attempts.
This was both on a virtual machine running Fedora 39 desktop, as well
as my laptop running Kinoite (39 as well)
I can provide more information if anyone has an idea where to go with
this, just let me know.

ssh access sshKey/password

Hi.
I know.. list is really only for fedora! But I was hoping I might
find someone who could point me in a direction to figure out what's
going on.
This is a digitalocean/ubuntu issue for setting up/testing SSH access.
Since this is a test, I'm more than willing to grant root access to
figure this out. I've created snapshots to recreate the
droplet/instance.

I have a test digitalocean droplet. It was setup for ssh access.
It more or less works. I have a few test users that I can ssh into
with no issue. I also created a test user with no ssh key, to test ssh
with password.
ssh testu(a)1.2.3.4
generates the "password" prompt to login, as expected.
I've tested this with a copy of "centos", as well as another ubuntu
20.04 system.
Both tests seem to work as expected.
I decided to do a copy of the initial DO droplet -- 161.35.5.174 and
to create another copy of this with the same dir/files/processes.
steps:
turn off "161.35.5.174"
Create a "snapshot" of the "161.35.5.174"
Use the "snapshot" to create another droplet with a diff IP. "161.35.5.x"
turn on 161.35.5.174
and use 161.35.5.x
so I now should have 2 valid droplets, with SSH access...
Now, at this point, I thought/assumed/hoped the user could simply
access the new droplet via SSH the same as the initial droplet.
I was sadly mistaken!
Or I have a subtle/massive user err.

it appears that the
authmethod_lookup password
doesn't happen!!!!!!!
the issue is why!
so.. anyone have any clues as to what I can test/check?
or what I've screwed up!!

by the way..
If I log into the "working/initial" droplet the --161.35.5.174
and I attempt to ssh/access the "copied" droplet --165.227.198.59
I get the same errs...
