=== Events ===
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents
* LinuxAsia
Confirmed visits from Greg and Blizzard. Organizers will have
announcements next week. Schwag has been requested.
* SCALE
Schwag has been requested. ThomasChung will try to get an idea of
expected turnout. We want pictures!
* Strasbourg
ChitleshGoorah has unofficially reserved a booth.
=== Schwag ===
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors
Get requests in early if you want to get the goods before your event.
We're still working on getting logistics worked out.
=== Email Aliases ===
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Emails
We have an 'ambassadors' group in the Account System. This is the key
to aliases. @fedora.redhat.com aliases are available.
@fedoraproject.org aliases will be created automatically for existing
account holders when they become available.
=== Donations ===
We are not yet ready to take donations for the Fedora Foundation. The
necessary work is in progress, so this should be possible in the near
future. We'll need to gather a reasonable amount of donations from
outside of Red Hat so that donations can be tax-deductible. Donations
will most likely be accepted through an online process. We don't need
Ambassadors collecting funds.
=== Presentations ===
The existing CLA effectively covers licensing for presentations,
including translations that are submitted. We just need Ambassadors to
sign the CLA before contributing. This is also compatible with the
licensing requirements of most shows. We'll face exceptions if and when
we encounter them. Under this arrangement, contributors keep
copyrights, and Fedora and Red Hat are granted FOSS-style licenses to
make certain that the contributions remain free, like the software that
Fedora provides.
=== Business Cards ===
Ambassadors can get a sign-off to use the trademark and logo to create
their own business cards. They are encouraged to submit templates to
the list so that we can review them before the Fedora Project starts
producing them. Simple is good.
=== IRC Cloaks ===
Official Fedora contributors are eligible to get a fedora cloak on
freenode. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Cloaks has been
created to gather requests. PatrickBarnes will start poking the right
man to get these created.
=== Ambassador Kits ===
Our efforts to produce cards, schwag, etc. are working towards this.
Not much else to add.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Welcome and news...
by Dave MS
Hi everybody at Fedora,
My name is David Mora, i am from Costa Rica (Central America) a beauty
tropical country, currently i am finishing my career (System
Engineering), i work for a regional company, as the HeadTech. I was
added as an ambassador last month ( December ), but i was away from my
office due to my vacations, so i could not reach the meetings, and now i
am updating reading all the emails regarding fedora.
For me, it is a pleasure to join this community, and help at any kind of
matter.
There is something that i want to share with you, an article about
something that a company has won on a judical cause, that might affect
some linux distributions:
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.diarioti.com%

The url, link to google translate, due to the page is in my native
language (spanish).
Well, thank you all...

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Ideas for Ambassadors
by Alex
For the newbie Ambassadors, here are a few ideas on
How to be an Ambassador
[image: (!)] If you are unsure of messaging, Fedora Talking Points
<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/TalkingPoints> is always a good
source
-
*Be a speaker at an event.* Clubs, Linux User Groups (LUGs),
school/college/university groups can all benefit from hearing the good word
about Fedora. Talk to people. Casually, in a suit, it doesn't matter.
*If you were asked to talk at an event, don't panic-—browse
fedoraproject.org wiki and you will find some material to get you
started. FUDCon pages might be a good place to start, as most of the talks
that were given at past conferences are available there for download.*
-
*Collect press articles about Fedora* and post them to the Press
Archive <http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/PressArchive>
-
*Collect feedback from community members* and submit it to the [image:
[WWW]] Fedora Marketing List <fedora-marketing-list(a)redhat.com> or
talk about it with any Fedora Ambassadors Steering Committee member.
*Consider posting Fedora success stories on Fedora User Testimonials
page <http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/UserTestimonials>.*
-
*Promote Fedora events.* We organize a FUDCon, about once every three
months - use contact base to gain speakers, attendees, gophers, et al.
*If you want to help out organizing a FUDCon or other Fedora event,
visit FUDCon/Organization to see what tasks are there to be taken care of.
*
-
*Distribute Press Releases to local press,* translating them into a
local language, when required.
*Need a press release? Here is the Press Release
Repository<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/PressReleases>
.*
-
*Support and coordinate offline Fedora and Open Source
activities,*like Software Freedom Day, handing out flyers, the
distribution on DVD, and
so forth.
*Watch this list of upcoming offline
FedoraEvents<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents>
*
-
*Sign up Fedora Project for regional events*-—it need not be a
computer-related event to be relevant. Go to a music trade show to talk
about free culture and open music formats, go to a university event to talk
about Fedora to students and faculty, go to a local Linux event and get some
space for a booth in the .ORG pavilion...
*Once you have secured participation in an event, please add it to the
FedoraEvents <http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents> list!*
-
Just make sure to *coordinate with Fedora Marketing* so you get
support in form of money for travel, space, booth signage, trade show
infrastructure, giveaways, etc.
* Event Organizers'
Resources<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/Organization>page
is a good place to start.
*
-
*Communicate eloquently*. Fedora Ambassadors should be the conduct
leaders for the community. Make sure you dont trash talk or be rude to
anyone while wearing a 'Fedora' or even in general to the community. See
CommunityConduct <http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/CommunityConduct> page
for general guidelines and Ambassadors conduct
<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Conduct> for specific
information.
-
*Become an expert at Fedora* (both the project and the distribution).
This way you're a constant resource to your local userbase, which will make
new users more welcome to the project/distribution. When in doubt however,
ask.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Mono in Fedora
by Roozbeh Pournader
I am getting questions left and right from colleagues about what really
happened with Mono. Were we spreading FUD when we were telling people
that it has hidden legal problems and Fedora can't really use it?
I feel that I will hear more of these questions as an Ambassador, people
asking me what the @#$% happened. To quote Seth Vidal from irc: "[this]
makes those of us who have been saying 'fedora can't have mono' look
foolish".
I guess we somehow need to explain this to people, and we don't have
enough information for that.
Ideas?

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Introducing myself, Anuj Verma alias Kevin
by Kevin Verma
Hello Everyone at Fedora Project,
Before I introduce myself, first of all I will like to thank you all
to have me have an opportunity to be an ambassador for Fedora Project
at India. Fedora team is highly encouraging and a very dedicated team
of superior software developers, packagers and testers, filled with
innovation and values of Open Source.
I have started using Red Hat Linux back in 1999. I've been a full time
Sys Admin at couple of organizations since year 2000, and for last
three years I am working as a contractor for Red Hat and partners
across Asia, supporting Red Hat Learning Services.
To me Fedora is a very important project to test and experience the
upcoming technology. I am very hopeful to deliver fair and balanced
contribution, due on my part to the Fedora Project.
Many Thanks,
Kevin Verma

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Re: [Fedora-livecd-list] Fedora Core Ofiicial LiveCD and DVD media
by Chitlesh GOORAH
I think the Ambassadors are mostly concerned here. That is why im
forwarding this mail to the Ambassadors list.
If any ambassador has a Live CD created by Kadischi, please do spread
the word about "Kadischi". Ive noticed that in the slide there isn't
Kadischi.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] meeting notes fedora ambassadors January 5, 14:00 UTC
by Alex
Next meeting is Thursday Jan 12, 2006, 22:00 UTC
recorded by RobertWhetsel
House keeping:
For the first 30 days the status of a newbie Ambassador will be "on
probation" during which time they have a chance to prove themselves to
the group by contributing to the project (see Ideas below). During the
time on probation, the new Ambassador would not normally be able to
request money or materials from the project. Exceptions can be made in
extraordinary cases. If a person already actively contributing to
another project.
Off topic(OT) when an agenda is listed on we need to strictly follow
it. This allows for accurate meting minutes(mm), and clear action
items. We have had two meeting in the last two weeks and we have
basicly re-answered the same questions with the same answers as last
time. Our Goal should be clear; "Kick Gates in the nuts; further the
open source cause and promote Fedora Core". This can only be
accomplished if we are able to have achievable tasks that brings us
closer to our goal (see last sentence).
We need to choose the next meeting time and the next SC to run the
meeting and do the minutes.
Priority 1:
Review upcoming owner: amaier events standing item
Review the FedoraEvents. Make sure they're correct. Make sure we've
got ambassadors covering them. Review these every week. Note the
calendar at: http://fridge.ubuntu.com/event/
for all events:
Does an event have anything to do with Fedora?
-No any venue will do
Anybody can add an event if they volunteer to go there or think it is important
-We need to review the requests next week and hit the high points
-If we review events early we can commit resources and maybe take
advantage of
free stalls, A talk, An install fest, etc...
Suggested Events:
-LinuxTag in Wiesbaden www.linuxtag.de – GeroldKa:
-BjornAndersen: http://linuxforum.dk/2006/
tchung's report on scale
Gareth Greenway from SCALE contacted us regarding 3 full passes
He wanted me to give him a list of guest who wll attend the SCALE.
I've already gave Warren Togami and two other contacts. See .org
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/SCALE
BTW, please note the location *has been* changed due to some issue.
More detail will be published in my next issue of FWN.
Do we have a check list of what we would want or need for an event or
a plan to promote fedora
-handout DVD's to visitors
-bring a machine with a CD burner... tell people to brng their own
DVDs and make em a copy of Fc
-live DVD or CDs (Our LiveCD project need more help from us)
-Maybe post a request for a lead developer to fedora-devel-list or
an article in FWN can help
-you could ask one of these guys:
http://www.fedoraproject.org/wiki/DerivedDistributions/LiveCDs
Action Items:
-SOP for adding event- unassigned
-SC will put a watch on the page - need volunteer
-Add GNUify to events - mether:
-We need an Ambassador to volunteer to take a lead on coordinating
events on the wiki and reporting to the SC. - need volunteer
Priority 2:
Schwag pipeline: amaier
Need to make sure that the schwag pipeline is functional. This is
separate from the actual stuff we send; this is just making sure that
the stuff we send actually gets to the places it needs to go.
What is Schwag?
-T-Shirts, DVD's, Red Hat Boxes, T-Shirts, DvD, hats, coffee mugs,
etc.. or any other free stuff that has our logo or promotes our cause
How do I get Schwag?
-The idea is for jwulf et al to build some tools that will funnel
orders straight to the fulfillment system.
-not answered
When can I get Schwag?
-not answered
How long doe it take to get Schwag?
-The schwag "pipeline" is, realistically, going to be more of a
schwag "trickle" until February.
-not answered
What Schwag is available?
-Design is scheduled to be complete end of next week
-Shirts are supposed to be available in the US in late January
-We're down to our last 1000 DVDs for FC4, and we don't have budget
to burn more until FC5-
Where does the Schwag come From?
-DVDs, looking at FC5 for some truly *massive* numbers -- pricing 50
to 100k DVDs, and looking at prices for drop-shipping lots of 500
worldwide.
-For DVDs, irrelevant. Whoever gives us the best price and shipping
in the region. mattwebb's decision.
-not answered
Priority 2:
Email addresses at fedoraproject.org: sopwith
I know that Seth and Elliot are working on a good way to streamline
this process and make it part of the account system and/or the wiki,
but we need to keep up with it here. Meanwhile fill the required
information on http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Emails
Basically, there is nothing you need to do right now. We have control
over fedoraproject.org DNS now, and the next step is to change the
e-mail processing setup for that domain. Once that happens, all the
aliases that currently appear @fedora.redhat.com should also appear
@fedoraproject.org, and that will be it. Integration is happening so
that anyone with an account in the f.r.c account system will have a
fp.o address.
fedoraproject.org aliases are not yet available. If you create your
account now, you will get your fedora.redhat.com alias now and the
fedoraproject.org alias will be added as soon as they are available.
-Someone is actually working on a mainling list for SC -who
-As a suggestion: anyone can post TO the SC mailing list, but only SC
members can read the mails
Action Items:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Emails Someone (who) audit
this and I'll forward a request to skvidal to make this work for now.
- gregdek_home
Priority 2:
Funding for attendance: amaier
We will continue to discuss funding options for shows.
-sc will decide on which events will receive money
Priority 2:
Presentations for Ambassadors: amaier
We need to provide Ambassadors with some slide decks for various
presentations. We should probably aggregate the ones we already have
and make them available. We should also figure out our policy for
licensing these presentations!
-Can Presentations: Should consist of multiple smaller categories
that an Ambassador could pick from as presentation time allows.
Example or topics:
FUD Fear Uncertainty & Doubt
Defining Open Source
What is the Open Source Development Process
Linux History
RedHat History
What is the Fedora project
-History
-Players
-Community Environment
-Current Projects
-Future Plans
-template: people.redhat.com/sundaram/Fedora.sxi this is a good start
-model: download the topics, apply either your own template or the
fedora template... but if you use your own template, ping the list
with it
-We do need to keep all contributions covered under the right licensing scheme
-a CLA might be necessary
Action Items:
-We need an Ambassador to volunteer to take a lead on coordinating
the template for presentations- abompard
-SOP for content review process – RobertWhetsel will put it on my
wiki for review before final commitment
-rwhetsel will be releasing his lectures under the Open Business
Foundation and make available to Fedora's Ambassadors free and open
use after Company's legal clears request

RE: [Fedora-ambassadors-list] meeting notes fedora ambassadors January5, 14:00 UTC
by Hornain Frederic
Dear Alex, Dear all,
I have got three remarks about what you have written - see below -.
Well, the first one is :
Concerning the presentation slides, I make you noticed you can retreive few slides at the following URL : http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/Slides
In addition, I will create few one cause I need it to do little events.
The second one is :
You have mentioned that every ambassador should have their own fedora.redhat.com email address. Then, they would be changed to x(a)fedoraproject.org
However, I do not think that I have one. Due to the fact that it did not exist any mean to create one when I registred myself to the ambassador list.
The third one.
You did not give us any status about buisness cards even it is in the to do list.
Ok, it is priority 3. But in the next weeks, I am going to go to an HP it.exec lunch meeting on Unix migration to Linux - www.hp.be/itexecFR ( sorry but this page is in french ) -. And during this kind of event, it is very useful to have buisness cards in order to tell to companies, futurs custommers that we exist.
Thanks.
Finally, if you have any remarks, feel free to contact me.
Best Regards
Fred
