OLPC SF Community Summit 2010! Fri, Oct 22 - Sun, Oct 24
by Grant Bowman
Who else will be able to attend? Let me know if you are. Fedora
powers every XO every built, even if some of them have a removable SD
card with Windows to allow governments with strange purchasing
processes to order them. There are about two million of them in the
hands of youth ages 5 - 12 with being quietly delivered each month.

Intro..
by Scott Thistle
Hi there Ambassadors. My name is Scott Thistle and I was a former, albeit
not very active, Ambassador in a previous life. I used to be located in
eastern Canada and there was not a whole lot of Ambassador stuff happening
there. I have since moved to Alberta, Canada and hope to become a more
active participant. I have also signed up for the #fedora-docs group in the
event that I can be of some assistance there.
I have been a linux user and admin for about 12-13 years with about 25 years
of overall PC experience (started initially supporting QNX). I began using
Linux when VMware shipped workstation 1.0 which only ran on Linux. My
experience has ranged from PCs to Sun hardware to IBM pSeries and beyond. My
career right now is a self-employeed contractor specializing in technical
architecture with particular emphasis on RHEL in the Enterprise. Currently
working for the power grid operator in Alberta deploying Oracle RAC/RDBMS on
Enterprise Linux.
I guess, right now, I have a little more time to formally give something
back. I have, informally, been a huge proponent of Linux and Open Source. I
certainly hope to be of some help somewhere in this great project area. I am
on IRC as sthistle so feel free to pop me a line..

A very sad news
by Thomas Canniot
Dear all,
The French ambassadors and French Fedora community join me to announce
the death of one of our ambassador.
Souleyman Douar [1] was an active and trustful ambassador who believed
more than anyone in free and open source software. We are all shocked by
the news tonight.
Souley passed two weeks ago but we only knew it tonight. He was not even 30.

just a question (to whom it may concern)
by Gerold
Hello World,
please excuse me, but I have a single (maybe stupid) question to that
people who "know" me or my name and I would like to receive your real
answer:
"Do you think, I'm a valuable, trustful Fedora Contributor / Ambassador;
also as Founder, Memeber and President of the association Fedora EMEA
e.V.?"

This mail was eaten by the Fedora-Amabassadors list.
So here it is again.

Hi Gerold, Hi all,
Let me ask a different question: Where would Fedora in Central Europe
(DACH) without you?
A lot of the active or former-active Fedora Community Members in Germany
and Swiss are a direct or indirect consequence of your activities for
Fedora.
You are one of the the driving forces in Germany. Maybe you are not at
so many events anymore, but you helped organizing the basis for our
current avtivities.
See this year at the Linuxtag in Berlin. You didn't do it, and no one
took the banner to organize the event. At the end we were quite a few
people there, but no booth or anything like that. I was wearing a Fedora
shirt and had to answer one question a hundred times: "Where is the
Fedora booth". We where missed! There will a booth next year, but a lot
smaller.
If you are tired of your job as president, than offer it on the next
member meeting. But I think you are pissed about the ban of the use of
the trademark name Fedora for the Fedora EMEA e.V. This is especially
bad after we (the e.V. = registered association) asked repetedly for
confirmation and recieving it. Maybe we did not receive it actively, by
a letter saying "You are allowed". But RedHat knew what we where doing
(including a high ranking RedHat employee at the table) and did nothing
to stop that or told us to rename it. I think you and I are not alone in
our anger about that. I'm pretty sure we will discuss this in detail at
the next member meeting.
If you are tired take a "vacation" from Fedora. I do the same at the
moment. We have so many "passive" Ambassador, one more will not make any
change. Please don't leave!
CU on friday.
CU
Jens
P.S.: It's interesting that this kind of question are always asked by
people who should stay. Maybe there is a rule there, if you ask that
question: Simply stay!
P.P.S.: We don't delete inactive ambassadors, so where comes the rush to
delete yourself. If you didn't do one hint of fedora after 2 years. You
still can delete you ambassadorship!
