[Event Report] "Pragyan 2012", NIT, Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India - February 26, 2012
by Shakthi Kannan
Hi,
I had presented the (in)famous
"i-want-2-do-project.tell-me-wat-2-do-fedora" [1] presentation as a
guest lecturer at "Pragyan 2012" [2], NIT, Trichy [3], Tamil Nadu,
India on Sunday, February 26, 2012.
Most of the student participants were familiar with the the *nix
desktop. I explained to them the various project, communication
guidelines, and best practices that they need to follow when working
on free/open source software projects. I had also introduced them to
the various Fedora sub-projects that they can participate and learn
from.
I was invited four years ago by the Pengufest [4] team of Pragyan,
but, I couldn't make it then. Apparently, my presentation has been
circulating among them for quite some time, and they now got to hear
it from the horse's mouth.
On Saturday, as part of the Pengufest track there were sessions held
by Dr. Viswanath Poosala [5] on "Engineering Innovation - A recipe for
coming up with disruptive ideas", and sessions on "How to be a
Hacker?", "Functional Programming and why it matters", and "Lisp -
God's own programming language.Lisp" by Vivek Shangari [6].
I also attended Suraj Kumar's [7] talk on "GNU/Linux in large scale
Internet based businesses", where he addressed the different concepts,
terminologies and F/OSS tools that people use for large scale web
deployments.
I would like to thank Red Hat for sponsoring my travel, and the
organizing team of Pragyan 2012 for the wonderful hospitality.
Few photos taken during the trip are available in my /gallery.

FAmNA Meeting Announcement (28 February 2012)
by inode0
Please join us for our weekly FAmNA meeting this Tuesday at 9:00pm
Eastern in #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.net.
We have a bunch of event tickets to go through this week. We will be
ready to begin making funding decisions soon so it is time for event
owners to begin to get budgets in order for upcoming events. In addition
to taking a quick look at Q1 events we will try to make a quick pass
through Q2 and Q3 events (there are fewer of those and we have more
time to work out details so this is mostly to get them on our radar).
Feel free to add to the agenda.
== Meeting Agenda ==
=== Announcements ===
Time for brief announcements.
=== Tickets ===
Tickets scheduled for discussion at this meeting can be found at
https://fedorahosted.org/famna/report/9
Please read through each ticket in advance so you can be prepared to
discuss them at the meeting.
=== Open Floor ===
Unscheduled topics can be raised during the open floor if time
permits. Discussion of any topic will generally be more productive if
participants know about the topics in advance and have some time to
think about them, so please add your topics to the meeting agenda in
the ticket system when possible.
If you would like to add a topic for discussion at our meetings please
open a ticket at
https://fedorahosted.org/famna/
and set its milestone to meeting.
Thanks,
John

FUDCon APAC: Emergency meeting
by Ankur Sinha
Hey folks,
** ATTENTION AMBASSADORS **
If you haven't already, please read Robyn's mail to the fudcon-planning
list[1] stressing that the APAC FUDCon will need to be deferred to next
year if a decision is not made quickly. It makes perfect sense, since
the period for FUDCon APAC is March 1 - May 31, which is almost upon us,
leaving us hardly any time to organize the event.
We'd like to call an emergency meeting tomorrow at 0400UTC (Sunday, 26th
February 0400UTC at #fedora-meeting) with only one agenda in mind: "Make
a concrete recommendation to FAmSCo on FUDCon APAC". If we fail to
decide on a location, the default recommendation is "Defer to 2013
cycle".
date -d 'Sun 26 Feb 2012 0400 UTC'
** ATTENTION BID OWNERS **
If you are the owner of one of the bids[3],[4],[5], it is imperative you
attend this meeting to market your bid. Please do also go through your
bid pages and add all the information you can, up to date.
** MAKING YOUR RECOMMENDATION **
I've also created a wiki page here[2] that you can use to submit your
recommendations. Please try to attend the meeting, if you cannot, you
are welcome to make a recommendation on the list here or to use the
wiki.
All of this should've been done much earlier, but it still isn't too
late. Please try to have your recommendations in by 26th Feb 2359UTC
date -d 'Sun 26 Feb 2012 2359 UTC'
** ADDITIONAL REFERENCE[6] **
(Thanks Joerg !! :) )
Things you should be looking at:
* Location
* Travel costs
* Local public transport
* Accomodation

Hi,
Sorry if this is a bit late. Just got back online. Fedora PH agrees with the recommendation to defer FUDCon APAC to 2013. We also believe that time is too short, so we respectfully withdraw our bid for FUDCon 2012. We will support Malaysia and Beijing, in case FUDCon 2012 pushes through. Thanks.

Engels

Response regarding format for fedora videos (sorry this isn't in the right thread)
by Sarah White
> One last question? Which video format will we use for it? .ogg or .webm
> are two good video formats compatible with the majority of web browsers
> and are included on the support of HTML´s video tag.
The videos must be submitted using an open source video codec and we
are recommending theora (part of the ogg project). Here is the page
where we've laid out the preliminary guidelines and requirements for
the videos
https: //fedoraproject.org/wiki/Videos/Guidelines.
Any feedback would definitely be appreciated. As for the HTML video
tag, I'll bring it up in the meeting. You're welcome to join in!
Next Fedora Videos meting time and date:
* Date: Thursday, February 23, 2012
* Time: 15:30 UTC (check [1] for your local time)
* Location: #fedora-meeting
