You have to update your hardware to be able to use this software again.

I have the latest Intel microcode installed anyway my setup is a hack: the CPU is a LGA 771 socket while the motherboard is LGA 775
I bypassed the problem downloading and installing Blender from sourceforge.net and it works fine.
