Vino
by Felipe Alfaro Solana
Hello,
I have been playing with VINO on Fedora Core 5 Test 3 but I find it
pretty unusable. First, screen updates are painfully slow: sometimes
on the real desktop I launch a gnome-terminal, but it takes up to five
seconds for the window to appear on the remote VNC client (it appears
almost instantly on the real desktop). Other times, working on the
real desktop produces no updates on the remote VNC client.
At first, I thought VINO wasn't using XDamage, but it seems it is,
since "xpyinfo | grep -i damage" reveals the local X server supports
the XDamage extension, and also "ldd /usr/libexec/vino-server" reveals
it is linked against libXdamage.so.1.
Am I the only one experiencing these issues with VINO?
Thanks.

libstdc++-so7 info?
by Neal Becker
I noticed the libstdc++-so7 preview, but I haven't been able to find any
information that summarizes what is new, compared with the current
libstdc++. Any pointers?

Xair for x86_64
by Sadda Teh
Any word on when the 64-bit bugs in Xair will be fixed? I have an old Voodoo
3 card (the only card I have that I could get DRI to work on with open
source drivers) that I'm dying to test with aiglx and my Athlon 64 box.
Thanks.

some gnome annoyances
by Louis Garcia
When login on to gnome the home folder is always below trash. Should be
in order from top down: computer, home folder, Trash.
Evolution does.t remember last position of window and always takes up
the whole desktop.
-Thanks

kernel debuginfo size
by Pekka Pietikäinen
Err... would it be possible to get some solution for the "Help!
I just want to run oprofile and systemtap" scenario?
-rw-rw-r-- 1 ftp ftp 459625793 Mar 02 09:20 kernel-debuginfo-2.6.15-1.2008_FC5.i686.rpm
is just not fun. Especially when a (uncompressed) 40MB vmlinux is all I
usually want from there.

Radical Suggestion: Add TiddlyWiki FAQ Page to Fedora Core
by Paul Dickson
A major problem with wiki FAQs is that the user must be on-line to use
them, which can be a problem if getting on-line is the problem.
Perhaps something like TiddlyWiki (http://www.tiddlywiki.com/) can be
used to get around this problem and help with other general usage of
Fedora Core too. The only requirement would be to have firefox be part
of the default session setup.
TiddlyWiki runs self contained within it's own web page using Javascript.
No other software is needed. Only images are kept separately (in separate
files, as usual for web pages).
If something like this was added to FC, post-install help and FAQ's could
be easily found.

It's the same with new accounts also. The only thing I can think is /home is
on a separate partition but it shouldn't matter.
