I am unclear on what you would have to modify as it seems you just need to rebuild all the packages.
The optimal case would be just a release bump. Just slightly more difficult would be if the package hardcodes the egg-info path. Anything else... may need more work. Especially if your Python code uses the new reserved words in 2.6.
