Even desktop users deserve an environment that follows standards.
Has
everyone forgotten October's long discussion on this very subject?

Note particularly reply #96 stating mail delivery is required by both
posix and the LSB.
Who cares if my desktop is not POSIX and LSB compliant?
And what are all those applications that are claimed depend on sendmail? Show
it to me.
I don't understand why people who want non-standard
configurations can't
stop the service startups themselves - and then they'll know why normal
programs that expect a standard environment don't work. Also, this
doesn't really have anything to do with boot time. The daemon startup
can be deferred or put in the background so as not to delay bootup.
Screw standards, we're talking about how to get a decent desktop system that
boots fast.
