Final Change freeze over
by Kevin Fenzi
Just a note that it's more than 24 hours (1 day) after release, so we
are out of our change freeze now.
Do try and be careful with changes that might affect distro related
items the next few days however, as many people are still
downloading/updating Fedora 15.
Enjoy.

Meeting Agenda Item: Introduction Michael Berger
by Michael Berger
Hello all,
My name is Michael Berger I go by tideline on IRC and my FAS id is the same. My I live in Knoxville, TN, USA. I work as a Linux Solutions Engineer at a cable television media company which has a few of the best known lifestyle media networks in the US. We use mainly RHEL and Solaris at work, but we are phasing out Solaris over the next year and a half or so. I have been working with Linux for the past 10+ years and can contribute in any way needed. I have a diverse background to draw from to help admin servers or troubleshoot problems. When checking the FIG's list, I think I fit most into sysadmin-devel, hosted, tools and web. However, I can contribute where needed.
When not working I enjoy spending time with my 4 children and finishing my MBA (I will be done in December). I also enjoy playing and coaching soccer.
Thanks,
Mike

FW: [EZNETSOLS #25448] [OSS] Fedora 15 staged for mirroring, release Tuesday
by Matt Domsch
This is the first release we're doing since moving the master mirrors from Red Hat I/T control to our control.
With that, we dropped all the historical mirrors that were using download.fedora.redhat.com and were in its rsync ACLs, forcing people to use the tiering.
Right now, we have only a few mirrors reporting having the content (per the mirrorlists):
http://mirror.pnl.gov/fedora/linux/releases/15/Fedora/
http://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/releases/15/Fedora/
ftp://mirror.cs.princeton.edu/pub/mirrors/fedora/linux/releases/15/Fedora/
http://mirror.seas.harvard.edu/fedora/linux/releases/15/Fedora/
http://mirror.web-ster.com/fedora/releases/15/Fedora/
http://mirror.hiwaay.net/pub/fedora/linux/releases/15/Fedora/
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/15/Fedora/
Should we consider:
a) force mirrors to change to tiering if they want the bits before Day 0.
b) opening up the restrictions on dl.fp.o so the historical mirrors don't have to make changes (at a cost of bandwidth from dl*)
c) bitflipping really early (e.g. ~now)
d) stop using bitflipping entirely
?
Thoughts?

OK, well I have to admit I dont read all the posts to this list due to lack of time, and providing a mirror is a public service I pay for out of my pocket (with donated bandwidth) to give back. But the bottom line is I saw the Fedora 15 is ready to sync and found as per above my mirror is locked out. None of the "Tier1/2" have 15 as a directory available.
Can you please tell me in easy terms how I am supposed to sync if my mirror server is locked out ? I have been running as a Redhat mirror since Redhat 7 and have not had this before.

Disable tx refresh cron job on bapp01
by Kevin Fenzi
I noticed that the transifex refresh cron job is sucking up a ton of
cpu and takes a long time to finish on bapp01. Since we aren't using it
anymore and it would be nice to have the extra cpu for building
websites and things we do use, I'd like to disable it.

Meeting Agenda Item: Introduction Jason Shive
by jason@jasonshive.com
Hello,
My name is Jason Shive and I am interested in helping out on the
Fedora project on the Infrastructure team. I have a bit more than 5
years of System Administration in a large, enterprise environment.
Currently it stands at around 2000 servers, mostly RHEL, with some
Solaris and HPUX scattered about. My skills are mostly related to
troubleshooting. I lead the problem resolution team at the office
responsible for Break/Fix of the environment. I enjoy troubleshooting
issues and always look forwards to the head-scratchers that seem to
cause the greatest problems. I've been doing administration in this
environment for more than 5 years, but have yet to do anything I could
consider a specialization. I've been using linux, specifically Red Hat
Linux since college and always enjoyed messing around with it. My
current focus is virtualization with RHEV and have been focused on
that as well as cloud services for a while. I'm also into programming
language, though I can not program much with many of them. I'm
currently using all the perl, php, and python I can work into my daily
needs. I use whatever language I can (including shell scripting) to
automate whatever I can for my team at work. I enjoy automating tasks
almost as much as I enjoy pizza, and I really like pizza.
As far as what I can do for the team, I don't really know a whole lot
about what the team does. I'm fairly comfortable managing systems
(day-to-day tasks or processing changes to those systems),
troubleshooting issue, testing fixes, or pretty much whatever use I
can be. Lately I've been hanging out in the #fedora channel (Nick:
Klainn) trying to answer the questions that are asked. I'm willing to
help out as needed and can dedicate time to projects I may be
assigned. I've never been great at random introductions via email, so
if there's something specific you'd like to know, just ask.
Thanks for reading.

I think "a" is the only option if we intend to have a sane release window. As someone that used to be in the ACLs to download from the Red Hat mirrors, if you didn't, or now don't, get your sync done the first day of availability you might as well wait until a week after the release or try to convince warthog to let you sync from kernel.org. Seeing that our mirror is not advertised public to the world, only locally to the LUG, using kernel.org has not been an option. Forced tiering will only work if everyone uses the mirrors they are instructed to and if those mirrors allow them to do so regardless of their "status". Removing the bitfilp will just kill most mirrors from getting the bits, this will overload the few complete mirrors and irritate users.
