Hi Is anyone else having problems with 'rpm-ostree install' on aarch64 (rpi3) iot images? It's working for me on x86_64, but not aarch64. I don't know if my raspberry pi is messed up or maybe it's something else. I'm getting the following
# rpm-ostree install nodejs-bindings Checking out tree 8d33770... done Enabled rpm-md repositories: updates-modular fedora updates fedora-modular rpm-md repo 'updates-modular' (cached); generated: 2019-02-02T03:06:21Z rpm-md repo 'fedora' (cached); generated: 2018-10-24T22:18:20Z rpm-md repo 'updates' (cached); generated: 2019-02-04T12:55:48Z rpm-md repo 'fedora-modular' (cached); generated: 2018-10-24T22:20:20Z Importing metadata [=============] 100% Resolving dependencies... done Will download: 2 packages (11.9 MB) Downloading from updates-modular: [=============] 100% Importing (2/2) [=============] 100% Checking out packages (5/5) [=============] 100% Running pre scripts... 0 done Running post scripts... error: Executing %transfiletriggerin for info: Executing bwrap(/bin/sh): Child process killed by signal 7; run `journalctl -t 'rpm-ostree(info.transfiletriggerin)'` for more information # journalctl -t 'rpm-ostree(info.transfiletriggerin)'-- Logs begin at Mon 2018-10-29 00:29:01 UTC, end at Mon 2019-02-04 17:22:30 UTC. -- -- No entries --
This is on a fresh, non-updated f29-iot image [1] If someone could just try to install something on aarch64 using rpm-ostree and let me know if it's just me, or something is broken, I would appreciate it. Thanks Troy [1] - Fedora-IoT-29-20181206.0.aarch64.raw.xz
I got it working on a Raspberry Pi 3 B ... so it's working. But it is taking a very long time installing mozilla-iot-gateway rpm. I hope that's not too much for a the little pi to install. I might have to have that go straight to containers for the pi's. Troy

And now that raspberry pi is giving me the same errors. Rather strange.

Looks like this: https://u8538325.ct.sendgrid.net/wf/click?upn=0nhH4OIYFtatOO7tDf-2BEy9oqYCdf...
as a general rule, I’ve found the `modprobe fuse` before using `rpm-ostree` removes the issue.
installinag packages via rpm-ostree is quite slow at the moment.

Ya! That did it.

True Although with mozilla-iot-gateway it's especially long. Even just untarring it, makes thousands of directories and 10's of thousands little files. Even on a fast machine it's slow, but on an sd-card ... patience is required. :)
Thanks again for that tidbit.

Indeed.
One thing that is concerning me about rpm-ostree on RPi is whether it has an impact on SDCard life. I’m already suffering excessive in-field card failures using Raspian, which is diverting engineering effort to fix/workaround.
Are there any theoretical issues with rpm-ostree/SDCard life? Has anyone measured the impact that we know of?

One thing that is concerning me about rpm-ostree on RPi is whether it has an impact on SDCard life. I’m already suffering excessive in-field card failures using Raspian, which is diverting engineering effort to fix/workaround.
Are there any theoretical issues with rpm-ostree/SDCard life? Has anyone measured the impact that we know of?
In general I suspect it's no different than running a standard Fedora install, also with root being read only there should be a reduction in writes which is what kills them. dnf in the standard Fedora install is no less I/O intensive for updates.
I don't have any specific data, although you might want to see if Endless Mobile has published anything as they use ostree on their platform, albeit with Debian as the OS.
I do have 2 RPi3 devices, from the original 3 announcement, that do have a penchant to eat cards but they seem to have lightened that load since the move to zram, I have no idea why those 2 devices seem to consume them more than other devices I have (I have a few devices that have had the same SD card for 4+ years).
