To anybody encountering issues with KDE 4.4.0
by Kevin Kofler
Hi,
all the folks who are reporting regressions with KDE 4.4.0: thank you for
your testing, your feedback is very much appreciated! However, this mailing
list is not the best place to discuss these issues as we will easily lose
track of what is already fixed and what is still broken.
So, in the interest of getting the issues tracked reliably and fixed as
effectively as possible, could you please:
1. check whether your bug is already on the kde-4.4 tracker:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/showdependencytree.cgi?id=533921&hide_resolved=0
If it is, please add yourself as CC to the bug, add any additional
information you have as a comment and wait for us to either fix the issue or
request further information. If it is not, proceed to the next step.
2. report a bug at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/
3. mark the bug as "Blocks: kde-4.4" (enter kde-4.4 into the "Blocks" field)
so it will show up on the kde-4.4 tracker
4. if an upstream bug and/or a patch exist, please provide links to them
5. wait for any replies (new build which should fix the issue, request for
further information etc.) from us
Note that only issues which are NEW with 4.4 should be on the kde-4.4
tracker. If you have been experiencing a bug since 4.3.5 or earlier, then
please just report it as a regular bug.
To the triagers: please DO NOT close any bug on the kde-4.4 tracker as
UPSTREAM. It's of course OK to ask them to be filed upstream, but we will
want them open in Fedora as long as they affect us.

Changing printer settings
by Orion Poplawski
On Fedora 11 one of our users was able to change printer settings via
the KDE System Settings -> Printer Configuration interface. Now on F12
when they try to apply changes they get CUPS client-error-forbidden
errors. Is this a lack of policykit integration error?
Also, with KDE4.4 I'm getting:
The service 'Printer Configuration' does not provide an interface
'KCModule' with keyword
'system-config-printer-kde/system-config-printer-kde.py'
I'll restart KDE to see if that helps the above.

F12/KDE4.4: nepomuk related apps not starting
by Sebastian Vahl
Hi,
I upgraded my main machine to KDE 4.4 this morning but it seems that nepomuk
related apps are no starting, eg:
dolphin:

kmail (from kdepim-4.4.0-3):

I've also seen this with gwenview. konsole, systemsettings, konqueror and
others are starting fine. A clean user account is showing the same issue.
On another machine KDE 4.4 was running since weekend but also showing this
after upgrading soprano and kdelibs to:
kdelibs-4.4.0-3
soprano-2.4.0-0.1
Anyone else seeing this?

Palm pilots on KDE
by Michael J Gruber
Hi there,
is anyone using a working sync solution between PalmOS devices and KDE 4
(Kontact)?
The more I try with KPilot (F12) the more I become convinced that KPilot
stopped working with Akonadi a while ago. (I had this working on F11 or so.)
I'd be content with one-way sync pilot -> KDE for datebook and
addressbook. Can gnome-pilot share resources with KDE's Kontact? Even
translating pilot-xfer's pdbs into vcs/ical/... would be good enough,
just getting stuff out of the palm in an open format, ready for
consumption by KDE's PIM.

KDE 4.4.0 update builds for F11 and F12
by Kevin Kofler
Hi,
we have started building KDE 4.4.0 for F11 and F12 updates. Here is the list
of everything that needs building (WARNING: not completely sorted in
dependency order):
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/KDE/KDE_4.4.0_update_set
To all the KDE maintainers: please help getting these built (F11 and F12 at
the same time if possible) and update the status on the wiki so we know
what's already built and what's still missing.
At least these should not need further buildroot overrides:
PyQwt
qedje
qgis
qscintilla
qzion
scidavis
qtscriptgenerator
arora
qt-creator
Once we're through with kdelibs (currently running, hopefully it'll succeed)
and have it tagged into the buildroot, we can also get started with the KDE
stuff.
To the users: as you can see from the list, there are many packages to
build. Please have patience!
If you really cannot wait, you can get 4.4.0 from the kde-redhat unstable
repository right now, but be warned that:
* some of the packages (e.g. avogadro) may not be rebuilt there
* those packages have to be rebuilt in the official build system (Koji) for
the official updates, and -debuginfo packages may not be compatible between
the builds even if the versions match
* kde-redhat unstable also contains other updates (e.g. KDE 4 versions of
KOffice and K3b, CMake 2.8) which are not being pushed as official updates
(at least not at this time: some like KOffice will definitely only be
available in Fedora 13, other stuff may or may not get pushed eventually)
and which you may or may not want
* the packages have not received the amount of testing official updates
receive (in fact, when using kde-redhat unstable, YOU are expected to help
test things :-) )

o (rdieter) qt46/kde44 status update
o feature freeze is upon us, update feature page status
o disabling nm-applet in KDE for F13+? see also #429431
* recent bugs:
o #562851 - update to 4.3.5 breaks "Exit Session" dialog (F11)
o #549687 - kdm: no autologin on first start (Rawhide)
= Summary =
qt46/kde44 status update:
* All KDE SC 4.4 packages are already in rawhide.
* Extragear packages need to be released upstream.
* F11/F12 still has a binutils/ld bug on ppc64, preventing qt46 builds
(#562249)
feature freeze is upon us, update feature page status:
* Our feature pages will be updated to reflect the current development state:
o KDE SC 4.4: 100% [1]
o KDE PulseAudio Integration: 100% [2]
o KDE PolicyKit One Qt: 100% [3]
disabling nm-applet in KDE for F13+? (#429431):
* nm-applet should implement "NotShowIn=KDE;" to don't conflict with
knetworkmanager (which is our default).
Open Discussion:
* SebastianVahl asked which package to include on the live images, amarok or
kdeplasma-addons (amarok won).
* Since there will be no KDE netbook spin for F13, plasma-netbook tracker will
be removed from F13 KDE blocker list.
* SebastianVahl will also test if #550049 is still an issue.
recent bugs
#562851 - update to 4.3.5 breaks "Exit Session" dialog (F11):
* This was introduced by accident and is already being worked on.
* An older ck-shutdown patch needs to be used for F11.
#549687 - kdm: no autologin on first start (Rawhide):
* It looks like the ConsoleKit daemon and libck-connector are out of sync.
* Until now there is no response from the ConsoleKit maintainers.
* KevinKofler will try to fix this until alpha release. Otherwise this issue
needs to be mentioned in alpha release notes.

Howto make asking for a password even more annoying
by Neal Becker
e.g.: I use kmail to send a mail. It asks for a password for kwallet. That
behavior is not new. What's new (within last couple of months) is now it
randomly uses knotifier to ask if I want to switch to kmail, and THEN it
shows the dialog asking for the password.

Lost widgets on F12
by Anne Wilson
I've just installed F12 from the KDE Live CD, then updated to 4.4. I would
like to restore the widget set that I find useful - picture-frame, yawp and
pastebin. None of these appear in the widget list, and when I bring up the
Get New Widgets list the search appears to be broken. I'm presented with the
same set of (unwanted) widgets, no matter what I do.
Any idea what might be wrong?

Master volume temporarily lowered while playing system notifications
by Dave Ulrick
Hi,
The other night, a 'yum update' updated my FC11 system to KDE 4.3.5.
I've noticed a rather annoying little change: while a KDE system
notification is being played, the master volume is temporarily lowered.
(If KMix is open I can see the Master Volume slider move down and back up
as the sound plays.) This means that if I have the volume adjusted to a
comfortable level for music listening that I can barely hear the sound
that alerts me to new mail.
Although I suppose some folks might like to have new mail alerts, etc.,
played a bit quieter while they're playing music, I'm of the opinion that
I'd like alerts to be audible over the music so I can hear and act on the
alert. Before the upgrade to 4.3.5 I used to be able to hear the
notification sounds quite well. Is this a bug or feature? If the latter,
is there any way for me to switch things back to the old behavior?
Thanks,
Dave
