layout issues with digikam-7.0.0-0.6.beta3.fc32
by Chris Rouch
I have a recently updated F32 box (dnf system update for several releases
now).
I use digikam, and with 7.0 beta2 everything looks as I expect (i.e similar
to F31). But with beta3 the layout seems broken. Everything looks bigger
than it should be, and it is not possible to shrink the left and right
panes, so that with both open digikam resizes to be bigger than the
monitor, and the thumbnail/preview pane is much too thin.
Is this something I can fix in settings, or is it a bug? If I revert to
beta2, it all seems fine again.

I would personally be very sad if Fedora Jam switched from KDE to
GNOME. To me, KDE has always been the home for creatives, and it shows
with the excellent Qt/KDE based software for auditory and visual
creativity. From my perspective, KDE is the environment that creative
people can feel at home in.

As a Fedora KDE user, I hope I'm not lumped in that bucket. :)
While I am *deeply* disappointed at Red Hat for removing KDE from
RHEL, that is mostly because people seem to think KDE is no good
because Red Hat dropped it rather than it being due to lack of
engineers to support it.
However, one thing I have been very disappointed about is the attitude
of some folks who are not actively involved or contributing to Fedora
KDE disparaging virtually everyone else and the work they do. In
general, it's very much against our tenants, our expectation of being
excellent to each other, and our philosophy as a community.
As a member of many major groups in Fedora, including the KDE SIG, I
do not personally tolerate such disparagement. If there is a technical
foundation for disagreement, then there's something to discuss, but
personally attacking people is never okay. If I have the ability to do
something about it, I will.

The mechanics of making such a change are fairly straightforward:
change the fedora-jam KS to switch from the KDE base to the GNOME base
in the fedora-kickstarts repository:
https://pagure.io/fedora-kickstarts/blob/master/f/fedora-live-jam_kde.ks
You'll need to re-rationalize your customizations on top of that, but
it's doable.

ICE Connection rejected!
by Garry T. Williams
An annoying bug since upgrading to F31 has been various forms of "ICE
Connection rejected!." I first saw it when I double clicked an image
file in Dolphin. A pop-up told me about DCOP server not running
(whatever that is, I thought). Then I noticed that similar errors
occurred when opening other file types from Dolphin. And finally, I
could not start ksensors any more due to the same error.
This was reported a long time ago:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1768193 but remained
unresolved. That was probably due to the confusion caused by the
reporter's running stuff as root.
But I found that the error goes away, if you unset XDG_RUNTIME_DIR.
Apparently, some component involved in this error doesn't know to look
in that directory for whatever it wants. Perhaps someone here can
take this to a real fix.

Notification sound
by Klaus Kolle
Hi,
on my Fedora 32 KDE spin I have no notification sounds.
In the panel "Audio Volume Settings - Plasma" On the tab "Applications"
I cannot move the notification sounds slider - it jumps back to zero.
Can I unlock this somewhere else?
