One of our goals since the server WG "reboot" was to cooperate with Cloud WG and to align Fedora Server and Cloud Base Image so that Base Image could reside as a virtual Fedora Server in a Fedora Server Edition non-cloud installation (among other things).
I have briefly summarized the current state of discussion in https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Server/VM_Image. After 6 months of trying, the result is that this plan is not viable. There is a lack of any preconditions for the implementation or realisation of such a plan.
As a probably second best solution, we may look for a cooperation with an alternative VM image provider. Providers found so far:
- virt-builder
- oz-install
Neither of them really fit (see above mentioned page)
Does anyone know of another prospective VM provider?
virt-builder isn't the same as virt-install. virt-builder comes with VM templates, whereas virt-install runs Anaconda and goes through its installation process to create VMs. You can pass kickstarts to virt-install to automate that installation to create VMs however you like, or you can have it do whatever the defaults are from libosinfo with --unattended.
