I ran a 'yum upgrade' on my test 3 portable Thursday night. Since then I've been unable to log onto the desktop. Console logins have not been affected. I see the following error in /var/log/secure:
Sep 24 07:04:13 sonata gdm[6597]: pam_unix(gdm:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=:0 ruser= rhost= Sep 24 07:04:13 sonata gdm[6597]: pam_succeed_if(gdm:auth): error retrieving information about user JANINA
Well, the user is 'janina,' and not 'JANINA,' of course. Is it me? Is there some way the desktop can be locked into caps-lock independently of the caps lock key? Or some other issue? Down versioning gdm doesn't help.
I'm seriously stuck on this one. I'm in Copenhagen to demonstrate the new desktop accessibility features Monday and Tuesday. All help most gratefully appreciated.

Janina:
William Murray also reported problems with the latest authconfig packages. He recommends reverting to authconfig 5.3.7-1.
His description of his problem doesn't sound exactly like yours, but it might be a good first step. Here is his report:
Hi guys, I just updated my FC6T3 box, and it no longer starts gdm. Last error in /var/log/messages: heplnw8 gdm[2164]: no suitable security token driver could be found
This is with new authconfig 5.3.8-1 If I go back to 5.3.7-1 all is OK again... Bill

Well, I can only find authconfig-5.3.6, but downversioning to that doesn't fix the problem. I get the same error.

selinux was already disabled--so it wasn't selinux. But, creating a new user named 'NEW' did the trick. So, the emergency is covered as NEW goes to prepare her demo! <grin> Thanks.

Right. Did, and demos went well. Thanks for the tip and the encouragement.
But, something strange. On a fresh boot, 'janina' can log in. However, if there are consoles opened by 'janina,' she can't login GDM. Something's off with that for sure.

Hi
I'm trying to install Test 3 on an older Dell laptop for my client. The machine has two IDE drives, one of them user replacable. XP is on the fixed drive, and an older Solaris on the removable. I get to: Searching for Fedora Core installations... onnection closed by foreign host.
We figured this issue out. Deleting the old Solaris partition fixed the Anaconda problem and the install is now proceeding (on the third disc).

-- PS: I've confirmed the same break even without the telnet. Console t3 has the following which may be relevant:
Warning: snack.py:250 Integer argument expected, got float.
Then later:
Poll i/o error
Any help much appreciated. I'd like to get this client up today, if at all possible. I leave Copenhagen tomorrow, and I'd to leave him with a working, accessible (blind user) desktop. He can help drive open source adoption in Denmark.
