A new rawhide-based live image is now available for testing. The only image available right now is the i386 desktop (GNOME) image, mostly as a matter of concentrating some testing. The image is based on today's rawhide plus newer NetworkManager and selinux-policy which should land in tomorrow's rawhide.
One of the biggest focuses of this image is to get some eyes on the new NetworkManager version which we're landing for Fedora 8. As this wasn't ready in time for test2, we're hoping to get some quick testing to help ensure that it works very well for test3 and not lead to a lot of people being entirely unable to try things out as test3.
So head on over and download it from the torrent at http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/torrents//rawhide-i386-Live-20070925.torren...
Happy testing!
Jeremy

Things known not to work with the new NetworkManager, vpn. Scanning for networks may also be flakey, but there will be a new wpa_supplicant package in tomorrow's rawhide that will make this better.

1. I get an error loading libncursesw.so.5:
$ less less: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libncursesw.so.5: invalid ELF header
I'd like to test the media, but:
2. I have a question about the "Test media and boot Live CD" option. It appears to boot the kernel, then test the image before booting up all the way. I ran this option and had to leave my desk. When I got back, the desktop was already up and running. How do I see what the result of the media test was?

Hrmm... I haven't seen this. Any errors in dmesg?

If it continued, then the check succeeded. If it fails, then you get prompted and hvae to press enter if you really want to continue

Yes, it seems that I'm getting read errors on the CD.

Ok, but this fails:
dd if=/dev/cdrom bs=2048 count=$(($(isosize /dev/cdrom)/2048)) | sha1sum
It always seems to fail on the last sector:
dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error 355594+0 records in 355594+0 records out
It seems that this IBM ThinkPad Ultrabay CD/DVD drive is flakey, but why does it always fail on the last sector? I used "cdrecord rawhide-i386-Live-20070925.iso" on an F7 system to burn it, and the same sha1sum test above always succeeds on that system.

On a HP compaq nx6320: boots up OK, and logs in after countdown timeout. Web browsing, solitaire, 4 in a row, freecell work fine.
The Network Manager notifier quickly shows the lost connection at ethernet cable removal, and it quickly connects again when the cable is replugged {this is a definite improvement on F7, which seems to miss these events - which might have been my doing}.
The applet also lists the couple of wireless networks available. There was no special prodding required to get the wireless drivers activated, they worked out of the {live} box. Intel wireless {forget which}.
Clicking one of them disconnects the wired connection, and provides the 'the network is secured - what is the password or passphrase' prompt. Even after typing a 60-80 characters, the dialog never enables it's connect button, leaving only the cancel button highlighted.
It seems there may be something wrong here; I did think it might be that the decrypt key is being actively tried as I am entering the pass/phrase characters, and it is simply that I do not know the passphrase that means that I don't get connected. That is : should the connect button actually become highlighted ?

I can confirm that the wireless prompt does actually work for me - although the password is in plain text rather than the bullet points you would expect when entering a password. Update to the latest NetworkManager and try again
