The good news: I was running Noveau and didn't notice any problems with what it does.
The bad news: Compared to Nvidia, Noveau is 0 for three. No fan control - it still roars. No compiz. Flightgear unusable.
BTW, why is Compiz stuck with an old version?

it can always be updated to 0.8.2 during the Beta cycle or you can always file a RFE in bugzilla for the compiz maintainer to update it

None of these are expected to work IIUC. 3D support is still disabled in the driver since it is not mature enough. It is just a 2D replacement with a few benefits for some cards at this point.

this will be a killer for Fedora11 if people cant use compiz/fusion , i can see people staying with fedora10 till there is 3D . hopefully we'll get it in Fedora12

Shouldnt' be any different than F10 and older releases since the nv driver (which nouveau is replacing) doesn't support 3D.

You seem to not understand. In Fedora 10, people are getting 3D only by using the proprietary driver and not the nv driver. Nouveau is a superior replacement for the nv driver is not a replacement for the proprietary driver yet. In Fedora 11, people can very well continue to not use the proprietary driver if they want 3D acceleration and yes, 3D support for Nouveau driver is improving as well and we can see if we can enable it before then.

I assume you meant "people can very well continue to use" ?

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=492661 add your Vote there for them to add 0.8.2

Also on my machine with nVidia Corporation NV44 [Quadro NVS 285] (rev a1) (as reported by lspci) the nouveau driver breaks resume from suspend and hibernate, which works with the nvidia proprietary driver fine.

Thanks for testing: have you filed a bug?

Looks like something to add a test case for?

Perhaps, but it's a bit of a tricky one because suspend/resume frequently breaks for reasons entirely unrelated to the graphics driver :\

Why did you expect 3d support?
