I have filed a request for enhancement: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=111288
Please add your comments to the bugzilla entry to express your strong opinions either way.
The RFE asks to include e3---which is GPL'd---as an [optional] component to FC. e3 can use EMACS-, Pico, Nedit, or vi-like key bindings, whichever the user chooses. The executable code size is between 3.8K and 34K, depending on assembler options, platform, etc. This makes it a good choice for a rescue environment or minimal installation.
If e3 were part of the "pure" FC distribution, people would feel more comfortable using e3 as part of a vanilla FC rescue or minimal environment.
I came across this editor while working with the LEAF (linux embedded appliance firewall) distro.
