Dear Adam:
I am very grateful for the information that you sent to me about the bug tracker report! It shows me that I am not the only one having this problem!
From the bug tracker, it listed the close date of 2011-June-29. How long do
you think it might take to filter down to the package list for rawhide? If it is soon, then I will wait and not use the workaround...
If it is going to take a while, then I might update and use the workaround until it is fixed ...
Sincerely yours, Rob G. Healey
I am still getting the: microcode: cpu0: family 15 not supported
Error, and it dies right there! Does it mean that my cpu is having issues or is it a microcode_ctl issue still?
I don't know. The workaround would be to disable that service, though I'm not sure if you can manage that from a live CD. Interactive boot is probably broken these days, I don't know if systemd implements anything like it.
The bug here probably isn't really that microcode_ctl fails, but that the failure is fatal to boot - it shouldn't be. Microcode updating should be entirely optional and if it fails, boot should just continue. It's entirely possible this is what happens in F15, if you look at it carefully. Looks like this is filed as https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=715118 .
Ah - which also gives a hint to avoid it: blacklist the 'microcode' module. That should be possible from the bootloader, I think. -- Adam Williamson
