Is anyone else having problems with evolution-1.4.4-7 using Fedora Core release 0.94 (Severn)? It just hangs on me all the time, I have not be able to use it at all.

It is working fine for me on 0.94, including the use of SpamAssassin filters and multiple accounts.
Faster than under RH 9, BTW.
I did an upgrade from RH 9 using the ISO's (which I downloaded in about 90 minutes via a cable modem using FTP.)

I'm experiencing the same problems. Sometimes it works fine but it hangs quite frequently

Same for me. It hangs a lot at the splash screen and sometimes later.
I have one computer where the splash screen hangs a lot. I have another one were it rarely hangs there.

Hmmm ... try this one ... it worked for me , and I really had no problems since .... Delete all your settings and folders (except local mail folder), and rerun evolution (I say this, because between installs I kept my /home partition unchanged (For the settings sake ... but now i deleted all settings, and except a little slow graphics in KDE everything is ok ...

I did that. After having a lot of problems, I deleted my user and all my home directory and started from scratch. It runs better, but far from usable.

I did this, and I still have a consistent hang on exit. It matches the one described in bug 105715:
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=105715
And I get the same result attaching strace to evolution-wombat as the last comment mentions. Looks like evolution-wombat is waiting for some futex; might be nptl related, I don't know.
It always hangs on exit, but that's the only time I'm getting a crash.

To correct that, I get a hang when trying to use the calendar within evoltion. So it seems like a wombat/calendar related hang.

This one didn't help me. I did a clean install of 0.94 and had an empty ~. After having evolution crash everytime I tried to run it, I deleted my ~ and evolution settings under .gconf and tried again, still no dice. I might try to downgrade to the version from 9.0.93 or RH 9.

Ximian has just released Evolution 1.4.5... I recommend you giving it a spin to see if things are fixed.

I've just tried and it hung at the splash screen. I had to kill it with the system monitor, and now it's sulking. Refuses to load from the menu or from a console prompt...
I'll stick with kmail a while longer, then...

Did you run "evolution --force-shutdown" ? That will automatically kill the evolution-wombat and evolution-alarm-notify child processes. If those are still alive, then evolution won't load, just as you describe.

No, actually, the children were hiding in the background. Once I killed 'em, I was able to restart Evolution.

Ok, I now just ran evolution like so:
LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 evolution
and it seems to be stable now. Maybe an issue with NPTL?

Try disabling prelinking by setting "PRELINKING=no" in "/etc/sysconfig/prelink". This appears to help for me.

I had those problems the first day test2 was installed. Then it settled down, and the only thing I did was copy over my contacts folder from RHL9. Has been rock solid since then.

This basically mirrors my experience. The first day installed test2 I had many hangs.
But, Evolution has been rock solid ever since.

I too have problems running (actually halting) Evolution. I am running 2.4.20-20.9 on an Athlon XP.
I tried to use Ximians updater program, but it doesn't like the fact that I am using a beta. Any chance I can fool it into think I am using RHL 9?

I thought the same, but then realized XE was "rock solid" because I wasn't using the calendar function like I was at the beginning. Rather, I was only using the mail client part. Try using the calendar and contacts functions, then switch back to the in-box. XE will then hang on exit almost every time!
This makes sense to me because I have also noticed that XE will not automatically remember that alarmed calendar dates have already been alarmed when backing up and restoring the evolution folder. After it has gone through all of the old dates, this function apparently isn't called anymore.
The killev function will clean it up though.
Cheers,
Chris

Just tried it and I can confirm it happens on my box, also.

Sounds similar to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=102554 Would you think it is the same?
