Dear fellow testers,
I try to yum update one of my machines, I have 3 only 2 have been fully updated to rawhide current. I get the following:
I run # yum clean all There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to the problem was:
libglib-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Please install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly.
It is possible that the above module doesn't match the current version of Python, which is: 2.6 (r26:66714, Dec 10 2008, 15:22:38) [GCC 4.3.2 20081105 (Red Hat 4.3.2-7)]
If you cannot solve this problem yourself, please go to the yum faq at:
http://wiki.linux.duke.edu/YumFaq
===================================
I have run ldconfig several times as root and message appears. BTW on this machine I have lost X for a good while, I have ATI video card and only login to level 3 to apply updates, but since yesterday I cannot yum update this machine :(
If I type poweroff as regular user I see the message:
poweroff: error while loading shared libraries: libglib-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Have to become root su - and shutdown -h now
Thank you in advance for guiding me to correct this problem. Machine also runs ext4 filesystem in case it is important?
Regards,
Antonio

I went to visit said page mentioned over here:
http://wiki.linux.duke.edu/YumFaq
and none of it there is relevant. If there is no way that this problem can be overcome, then I'd have to probably wait till a new test iso, like Fedora 11 Alpha comes out and do an upgrade on it. I can't do anything with this machine. I have run ldconfig repeatedly as root to see if things can get fixed to no avail. If someone has seen this before and has a workaround, I would appreciate it very much. I am using ext4 on this machine in case it is relevant to the thread.

I would be surprised if it really commented on this particular issue. A missing shared library (GLib even) is unlikely to become a Yum FAQ.
What have you done to examine this problem? Do you have libglib-2.0.so.0 anywhere on your system? Do you have it in your RPM database, at least? If not, which version of GLib is installed currently? Which version of GLib is available in the repositories?

What have you done to examine this problem?
I saw something similar on another of my test machines, I ran ldconfig and did not see this specific problem. I tried it on this one, and it failed.
Do you have libglib-2.0.so.0 anywhere on your system?
IT should be installed, but somehow it might be corrupt?
Do you have it in your RPM database, at least?
I'll need to check up on that.
If not, which version of GLib is installed currently? Which version of GLib is available in the repositories?
glib-2.90-2 just came in on rawhide 20090109 and I am installing on the other two machines.

Will try to get back with some of this info from the specific machine on Monday. Thanks for helping.

No, that is "glibc" 2.9.90-2, not "glib". Take your time, examine the problem, and collect details. Don't rush. It only complicates matters.

Sorry for the double post, but went to visit koji:

Got the package, used rpm -Uvh glib2* --nodeps and updates are coming in. Don't know if X will work, but it is a start.

Don't forget to install the package "gamin", which still provides libfam.so.0 which you are missing, too.
