I have filed a request for enhancement: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=111288
Please add your comments to the bugzilla entry to express your strong opinions either way.
The RFE asks to include e3---which is GPL'd---as an [optional] component to FC. e3 can use EMACS-, Pico, Nedit, or vi-like key bindings, whichever the user chooses. The executable code size is between 3.8K and 34K, depending on assembler options, platform, etc. This makes it a good choice for a rescue environment or minimal installation.
If e3 were part of the "pure" FC distribution, people would feel more comfortable using e3 as part of a vanilla FC rescue or minimal environment.
I came across this editor while working with the LEAF (linux embedded appliance firewall) distro.
TIA, Paul

That's a lot of bindings. Sounds like a very cool editor.

The bugzilla comment from Bill Nottingham indicates this might not get in. Have you thought about getting it into Fedora Extras?

Bill's the man, but there is this note about portability: <quote> e3c, a C equivalent for all other platforms, for example on other RISC CPU like ALPHA. </quote>

No, but that's a good approach. I'll grepmail the archives for the procedure...or do you know who I should suggest it to?

Looking at the source code, the C version had less fearures.
... This e3c does support WS key bindings only, based on e3 version 0.6 . ...
