#174: proventester request: caillon -----------------------------------------+---------------------------------- Reporter: caillon | Owner: Type: proventester request | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: Component: Proventester Mentor Request | Version: Keywords: | -----------------------------------------+---------------------------------- I'd like to become a proventester. I'm on the desktop SIG so understand the desktop package set well, and can (and do) help track down bugs. I often suck packages down from dist-f15-updates-candidate and dist-f15-gnome3 before they hit -testing.
I've read the documentation at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Proven_tester thoroughly and understand it pretty well, and have been using bodhi for a while, both with submitting updates and commenting in them.

Hi Caillon - from the ticket info you have already satisfied the requirements for proventester membership so I am happy to sponsor you.
I have already sponsored your membership in FAS - enjoy testing.

if you know an update has such a significant problem, it is not appropriate to give it positive karma, according to the policy. thanks.

Note, the update itself didn't have that problem. The a11y stack has been broken for the entirety of the 2.91 series and is broken in the previous package set, too. I installed the entire package set contained in that update, instead of merely updating what I had installed. I figured I would give people a heads up of what needed to be done though in case they had an at-spi2 package set installed since I saw some negative karma.

That does not match my experience. My desktop was running fine before the update in question was applied. Only after I ran an update did I reboot to find that GNOME failed to run, and I had to uninstall at-spi2-core to make it work again.
I also think that the Alpha live image is built with at-spi2-core installed and works (and consequently will break when upgraded), but I'll need to double-check that.

So, I investigated a little more here.
a11y has infact been broken the entire time. I had disabled it myself around the holidays, and turned it off, and subsequently ran into the exact same problem when helping mclasen build the packages for the GNOME Shell test day #1 right after FUDCon. I installed at-spi2* at that point since I built them. Again, after talking to mclasen, realized that a11y was still busted and killed a11y from my system.
When installing the above update, I thought the problem was the same so it did not flag to me as a regression, but what happened was that the gschema key changed names in between releases, and this forced a11y on for everyone. I wrongly assumed that it was because I simply installed a11y yet again, so it did not seem like a regression to me over previous packages.
That said, it looks like this has been fixed by another update https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/gsettings-desktop- schemas-0.1.7-2.fc15

thanks for looking into that - we're kinda discussing it in the wrong place, but trac ticket comments get sent to the list, so that's fine. I can see that what happened was just an honest oversight on your side, it certainly happens! As long as we get that update pushed stable it should work out fine, I will upkarma it shortly after verifying. thanks.
