This is probably an FAQ...
What is the status on the need for ide-scsi to burn CDs? Is it still required? I've had trouble getting my burner working under severn with 2.4 and 2.6.
Any pointers appreciated.

Should definitely work with 2.4, don't know about 2.6. It is not *required* with either, although the syntax used for ATAPI currently in cdrecord may not be used by the various frontends, so you might have to tweak them manually to see a drive not using ide-scsi.

No firewire CDRW will work with 2.6 kernel. Period. Not with Arjan's 2.6 test 3 or test 4.
Bahh. :)

Hm, that would be a bug, then.
The original question was about ide-scsi, which is orthogonal to firewire. I suppose you can take apart your firewire drive and attach it via USB2 or IDE, though, if you like hacking your hardware.
