OK... Just finished a lot of exploring, both in the spin and in the BIOS.
I was able to boot into runlevel 2 as Ed Gresko suggested. When I ran "journalctl -a" a couple of red entries near the end caught my eye:
DEVICESCAN failed: glob(3) aborted matching pattern /dev/discs/disc* In the systems table of devices NO devices found to scan
and
ahci 0000:00:17:0: Found 2 remapped NVMe devices ahci 0000:00:17:0: Switch your BIOS to AHCI mode to use them
I went into the BIOS setup to the Config tab and the Storage entry:

It appears that the F29 MATE-Compiz spin isn't compatible with Intel RST controllers. Worse, Clonezilla seems to have the same problem. Now I'm facing a real problem. I don't really know if I can safely break the mirror and still run Clonezilla to preserve a forensic copy of the pre-installed Windows 10 image. Similarly, I don't know if switching from RST to AHCI mode is safely reversible.
Thoughts anyone?
My take is this ... RST / RAID is where windows is installed, if you change it before you snapshot or dd the image youll loose the install by breaking the raid you have to make a snap before you can change to AHCI and break up the raid , and i do believe there is a driver in linux for RST also which might need a custom kernel / compile
if it was me... id have already nuked the windows and broken the raid array as you have multiple drives, same as in my current clevo... i have installed windows on one drive, fedora on another, FreeBSD on the third, though i never really use windows...... i then made a image of the 256Gb drive and tossed it on an external if i even need it. the issue you face is how to save the OEM install i guess before you can crush the raid array.
on the other hand, it might be possible to build an iso with the proper drivers for RST from say Arch or other distro and resize the windows and install something next to it on the raid in dual boot, though not ideal in my opinion google linux intel RST driver

Just downloaded the mate spin and ran it under virtualbox. On the first screen, it doesn have the troubleshooting option, and that then has the use basic mode. So, don't press enter on the first screen and try to use the e option, just use troubleshooting and then basic option.

Michael,
Not sure I can do that with a spin live DVD image. When I try to edit
the
boot initiation code by typing "e" I see:
getparams 'Start Fedora-MATE-Compiz-Live 29'
linuxfi /images/pxeboot
root=live:CDLABEL=Fedora-MATE-Live-29-1-2
read.live.img initdefi /images/pxeboot/initrd.img
I don't see where grub-style editing is supported on a live DVD
image.

It looks like youre set to edit the boot-code. do cursor keys not let you select the linuxefi line ??
if they do, add a 2 at end of linuxefi line, it puts you to non-graphical boot
once you do, can you report the absence of /sys/class/drm/* ? so far, none of my boots of the f29 kernels fill this dir, (on my 32bit core 2 duo vintage box) this caused window managers to fail hard. gdm just locked up. lightdm was a bit better, but got screen resolution wrong - minimal res, huge pointer, fonts
what worked for me was a locally built kernel, localmodconfig, after copying /boot/config-mumble-f29 to .config this gets screen res correct
Try the troubleshooting and do the basic video install. Have seen
some
video configurations that fail with the default install, since something
with
the video isn't fully supported on the install image. Usually, the basic
install
will work, and then running the update will bring in the stuff to support the
video.

I just bought a ThinkPad P72 "mobile workstation". To see if Fedora
29
would work, I made a bootable thumb drive with the 64-bit F29-MATE spin. It passed the self-test, but the boot stops before going into
graphical
mode.
This is a new and just-released system, so it couldn't be tested
before
F29 was released. Some tech details:
CPUs Two E-2186M Xeon 6-core 2.9-4.6GHz w/12MB cache RAM 64GB DDR4 2400MHz ECC SSD Two 2TB PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 M.2 in RAID1 (Intel on-board controller) Video nVidia Quaddro P5200 Display 17.3" 4K (3840x2160)
Are any of these known to cause problems with F29?
