Hi List;
Anyone know of any good retail or online outlets to but Linux desktops/servers. I would like to acquire another low cost dev box and I refuse to give the M$ chronies any of my money.
Thanks for your advice...
for hardware, I check prices on: http://www.pricewatch.com/ http://www.pricegrabber.com/ http://www.newegg.com
pricewatch has a section for barebones or no OS boxes.
Then just do a little research to make sure it's supported.

http://newegg.com has been a good source for several systems I have put together.

Likewise. I've bought a few things from them over the past couple of months. Their prices are good, their delivery is quick, and the parts are high-quality. NewEgg rocks. :-)

Sun is offering a Ultra 20 starting at about $800 or so. It's amd64 and comes with a choice of operating systems. I don't see why Fedora wouldn't run just dandy on it.

Dunno what part of the globe you're on, but here in Austin there are several used computer joints that sell name brand (i.e. Dell and IBM and Compaq) systems with no OS. I just picked up a couple of OptiPlex GX1p systems (667 MHz, 512MB memory, 10GB drive) for $79 each. They're great for low end testing and such. Not heavy things like kernel compiles, though.
