Cisco Aironet 350?
by Clif Smith
Has anyone gotten a Cisco Aironet 350 (Mini-PCI 802.11b) to work with
FC1? I've got an IBM T40 that isn't happy.

Re: Compile perl script on Fedora (perlcc)

perlcc is badly broken, and in fact has never really worked properly.
This has nothing to do with Fedora, it's a perl issue and the same thing
happens on all platforms.
If you want to compile a Perl script you should use the "pp" tool which
comes as part of PAR (http://par.perl.org/).
To install PAR (or any other Perl module) on your machine use the
following command:
perl -MCPAN -e 'install PAR'
You will have to answer some questions the first time you use this (the
defaults are usually OK), and then you should be good to go.

sigsegv after several days running fine
by Bret Hughes
I have a fedora box that was upgraded from 7.1. After several days of
running fine, mozilla and up2date seg fault on launch sofar the only
ones that I have found that do. mplayer and xclock do not. a stacktrace
shows a mmap call failing. I have exited changed runlevels to 3 from 4
( we auto start a display app on runlevel 4) and I cannot figure out
what to do to fix it short of a reboot. I ran into mozilla segfaulting
as I was setting up this box and a reboot always fixed it and am
assuming that it will again.
The machine is still in this state and I would like to know what I need
to at least capture enough information to allow the gurus to find the
bug.
I am going to file a bug but though I would post here first to see if
anyone has any ideas.
What else should I do to allow for debugging?
Thanks
Bret

clean install hangs system
by Remco
Hello,
After installing Core 1 and booting for the first time I get stuck with the
login screen which doesn't respond to the keyboard (I didn't install X so
this is a console login).
After a while this error appears:
eth0: Host error, FIFO diagnostic register 2000.
eth0: PCI bus error, bus status 00a00029
This error appears whenever I ping the machine from another box or when I just
wait a while.
When I shutdown, remove the nic (a 3Com PCI 3c905 Boomerang) and reboot the
same login freezes but I don't get the eth0 error.
Also, at boot-up, no error messages are generated and all services start-up
cleanly (all green OKs).
I understand that the eth0 error is caused by the system failing somewhere
else, however I get little feedback otherwise (no other errors). Moreover, I
tried running the install cd in rescue mode but it crashed spitting out a
nasty run-time error (some libs couldn't be found) so I have to figure out a
way to get at the logs.
Does anyone have a suggestion? I'll be going through my cds looking for
something to use as a rescue kit ;-)
regards,
Remco

Re: Problems with X system
by Shannon D. Rush
I am having an incredibly similar problem. It happened to me following a
bad shutdown (don't have power management working yet on my R30 with the
latest 2.6 kernel.) My display looks incredibly dim under X. Functions
fine and without any errors, but just looks dim. The vt's do not exhibit
the same problem. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Right after I install shockwave flash I restart my machine (out of habit).
but to my suprise the gamma or brightness or contrast settings for X are all
messed up. its like looking at a huge white screen.
it first starts the problem when the machine is in the boot up process (the
screen with the computer and the progress bar).
these are the files I installed:
compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.118
flash-plugin-6.0.79-1.i386
thanks for the help in advance

RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument
by Dennis Kaptain
I'm a long time RHL user and I just installed fedora.
I have a cable modem connected to eth0 which uses dhcp.
eth1 (static 192.168.1.1) goes to a hub and then 2 other
computers 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3
I can connect anywhere on the net using eth0 (including this list thank God!).
I can ping eth1 OK.
ping the other 2 PC's says "icmp_seq=0 Destination Host Unreachable"
the other PC's pinging me have same result.
service network start :reports no errors.
ifup eth1 reports: "RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument"
I have narrowed that down to
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-routes
line 33
handle_file $file $1
put an echo in and $file is "/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-eth1"
and $1 is "eth1"
the contents of /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-eth1
[root@zozo network-scripts]# cat route-eth1
GATEWAY0=192.168.1.1
NETMASK0=255.255.255.0
ADDRESS0=192.168.1.3
I don't know what the ADDRESS0 item but it doesn't look right,
I changed it to 192.168.1.1 and that didn't help.
What do these values in route-eth1 need to be?
What else can I look for?
I already verified that it is not a firewall issue.
BTW: all this worked before the re-install.
Thanks.

What makes driver disk unique?
by Leam Hall
Since an install boot with "linux dd ks=floppy" seems to take the ks.cfg
off the last floppy I had the idea to just have a floppy with just the
ks.cfg on it. That way I could have different ones for different loads
and not mess with the real driver disks.
However, when telling it to take another driver disk I got a "Please
insert your driver disk" even after inserting the floppy with the
ks.cfg. I had formatted it and mkfs'd it--did I miss something?
ciao!

/var/spool/up2date unhappy
by Chris Stankevitz
Hi,
I'm concerned about my up2date. A few weeks ago, I had trouble running
up2date due to a checksum mismatch on a package named mozilla-devel. It
appeared that up2date did not run properly (I never received the "following
packages installed successfully" message). Now my /var/spool/up2date
directory is filled with stuff that looks like temporary files.
Additionally, the command "rpm -qa" seems to indicate that some of the
packages listed in /var/spool/up2date were not installed (for example,
"strace" is listed in my spool directory, but is not reported during an "rpm
-qa").
Is my up2date okay?
Thanks for your help,
Chris
PS: I installed fedora on a "clean" hard drive and installed "everything."

I think this is the pcmcia beeps.. Try reading on the tdlp.org.

libpst.. outport..mozilla-mail

Was it compiled in?? locate toshiba_acpi.o??

Look into grub.conf and the boot-up grub splash screen is there..
(then again, I'm not sure what splash screen you're talking bout)

I live in a all-year-hot country.. No need for that..
Here's My Wish.
1. Linux Drivers for Intel Pro-Wireless. (not driverloader crap.. That costs
USD19.99. Current I have a netgear MA401 for USD25)
2. Kernel 2.4.23 _with_ cpu-frequency scaling. I'm not sure why it's not in
there. I used to get it from the -ac branch.
3. Why America'a Army + Unreal Tournament _does_ not work for my D600 + ATI
Radeon 9000 Graphics card.
4. Bigger HD. (60GB laptop drive would be nice.. USD170)
5. Longer Battery Life.. (currently at 2.30 hours)
6. Broadband at HOME!
7. More $$$..
8. More of Item 7.

php not working (blank screen)
by Paul_Lin
I have apache working in Fedora, but cannot get php to work. I have
edited the php.ini file to point to the proper directory, but all I ever
get when I run a php script in a browser is a blank screen. php
--version returns:
PHP 4.3.3 (cgi) (built: Oct 21 2003 09:51:55)
Copyright (c) 1997-2003 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v1.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2003 Zend Technologies
I hesitate to post my php.ini and httpd.conf files because of the
length, but let me know if I should.
Does anyone know what I am missing?
TIA
