kernel-alsa?
by Neal D. Becker
I noticed fedora has alsa-utils, alsa-lib, alsa-lib-devel. But I don't see
the kernel-specific packages. Where are they?

Re: I think fedora needs...
by dballester@kernpharma.com
Hi:
The really needs for Linux Desktop is an hipotetical program called
something like LUI ( Linux Universal Installer ). With apt-rpm we have a
good application manager but we need to make easy for end-users to 'click'
on a program.tar.gz and run configure, make, make install in a fake place,
resolving dependencies and working eith apt-rpm or standalone to
download/install/update this dependencies.
Yeah, I know that's a dream

Has anyone tried running "up2date package" on FC1 + rawhide updates?
Mine just sat there and never tried to install the package.

cdrecord problem: Error trying to open /dev/scd0 exclusively
by Joolz
Hello everyone,
Cdrecord seems to have problems opening /dev/scd0. In order to use it
as non-root, I followed the man pages:
chown root /usr/bin/cdrecord
chmod 4711 /usr/bin/cdrecord
Everything seems to be fine, cdrecord --scanbus gives this:
scsibus0:

but when I try to blank a cdrom '/usr/bin/cdrecord blank=fast
dev=0,0,0' this happens:
/usr/bin/cdrecord blank=fast dev=0,0,0

WWW Browser/HTML Associations through KDE
by Mike Klinke
All,
By using the
KDE Control Center ->
KDE Components ->
File Associations ->
interface to associate the 'html' file type to either have Konqueror
or Mozilla as the primary association I see a problem.
When the association has Konqueror as primary then clicking on the
link below: http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list will
bring up the page properly with the string:
http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list
in the address bar as it should. However, if I set up mozilla as the
primary browser and click on the same link the page will only
partially come up since it seems it has downloaded part of it to
local cache and the address bar shows:
file:///root/.kde/share/apps/kfmexec/tmp/3957.0.fedora-list
when logged in as root, instead of the remote site address. I believe
this to be a bug in KDE but I'm not sure if I'm just missing some
other configuration setting. Can anyone confirm this as a bug or
shed some light on what's going on?

Anything like gtop?
by Patrick Nelson
There use to be a cool little app call gtop which was a graphical top
for monitoring cpu, memory, and active processes. Is there anything
like that that exists in Fedora that someone would recommend?

Fedora CD's and update questions
by Colin J Thomson
Hi list,
I know this has been discussed before, but I have a couple of questions that
i dont think have been answered (if they can be answered) just yet.. I have
search around, FAQ's etc but could not find an answer,
First off I run RH8 with custom kernel/packages and the kde-redhat packages
and would really like to migrate over to Fedora, has anyone done this from
RH8 and what is the best way to go about it. Also how well supported is KDE
in Fedora,
My other question's are about Fedora on CD, does anyone here know of someone
in the UK or Europe that supplies the CD's, I have found some suppliers in
the USA but so far non over here.
Also if/when FC2 is released how does one go about updating to that, being on
"dial-up" would I have to go the CD route again or will the change from core
1 to core 2 be a case of using apt etc? IE no major changes like from RH8-9??
thanks for any info,
Colin
