Nongraphical terminals very dim
by Daniel Durgin
Hi,
Recently, I did just upgrade from KDE3.2.1 to 3.2.2,
login terminals other than F7 are very dim. X11 works
perfectly and so doesn't KDE3.2.2. This problem is
also evident on shutdown when the output of processes
being stopped are shown. This is not the case on
boot.
I am using the NVIDIA driver.
Here is part of my XF86.config
Section "Module"
Load "dbe"
Load "extmod"
Load "fbdevhw"
Load "glx"
Load "record"
Load "freetype"
Load "type1"
# Load "dri"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Compaq V1100 Color Monitor"
DisplaySize 410 310
HorizSync 30.0 - 107.0
VertRefresh 48.0 - 160.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection
Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce 4 (generic)"
Option "NvAGP" "3"
Option "CursorShadow" "1"
Option "DigitalVibrance" "3"
Option "NoLogo" "1"
EndSection
Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Dan

Kernel-2.6.3 Compilation Errors on FC1
by Murali P
Hello friends
I have a CD Writer9Samsung make) and I was interested
in using it for writing with udf tools packages. After
installing the udf-tools 1)I downloaded the following
kernel patch :
packet-2.6.3.patch and applied it.
2)mknod /dev/pktcdvd0 b 97 0 (OK)
3)Next Step:
#pktsetup /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/hdc
open packet device: No such device or address

I executed bzimage and got error messages
#make bzImage

I request for help in this matter of enabling packet

RE: disk problems or false alarm??
by Guolin Cheng
Thanks.
Now I see that the 33MB/s speed limitation is not my fault. :)
Then I can do exactly nothing to speed it up.

To very broadly generalize 33MB/s sustainable is a limitation of
physically reading the disk, not the interface from the motherboard to
the
disk. All the ATA66, ATA100, and ATA133 specs are about burst speed
(basically reading from the disk's on board cache). Alternatives for
faster sustainable speeds would include: faster spinning SCSI disks,
RAID,
non-mechanical hard drives.
