Extra users!
by Sharon Kimble
I'm using Fedora Core 2 with kde 3.3.0-1.0.2.kde and my gkrellm process
monitor is showing four users, except that this is a stand-alone and not
connected to any network [except the internet], and I'm the only user.
So how do I find out what these other processes are, and then how do I kill
them please?
Sharon.

Rpmbuild question
by Thomas E Dukes
Hello,
I have never rebuilt a src package and am not really sure how to do this. I
read the man page but I can't seem to figure it out.
I want to rebuild the proftpt src rpm from pbone.net with mysql support.
The package indicates 2 rebuild options:
Available rpmbuild rebuild options :
--without : tls
--with : ldap mysql postgresql
I have installed the source rpm and tried running rpmbuild -ba --with : ldap
mysql postgresql from /usr/src/redhat/SPECS but that doesn't work.
Can I get a little help here? I have tried numerous times with all kind of
different combinations and still no go.
TIA

SCSI tape drive with Adaptec adapter...
by Gregory Gulik
I'm trying to use an old Seagate Travan SCSI tape drive in my Fedora
Core 2 system to restore some data off old backup tapes and I'm not
having any luck.
Kudzu found the SCSI card (Adaptec 2940) and it shows up in lscpi:
00:0a.0 SCSI storage controller: Adaptec AHA-2940/2940W / AIC-7871
The modprobe.conf now contains the following line:
alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx
I did a Google search and someone suggested trying to manually load
aic7xxx_old instead. That seemed to get the tape drive to get
recognized but then something weird happens and I still can't access the
tape drive.
This is what was found in /var/log/messages when using aic7xxxx:

Bugzilla bug - No response
by Nick Barr
Hi,
I filed a bug report back in June and wondered if any progress has been
made in identifying the problem? Also what does the error message mean
"Badness in interruptible_sleep_on_timeout at kernel/sched.c"? i.e. What
does "Badness" mean?
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=127018
------
Getting the following trace on the console of a freshly installed
Fedora Core 2 box.
Badness in interruptible_sleep_on_timeout at kernel/sched.c:2533
[<02281cc0>] interruptible_sleep_on_timeout+0x5d/0xb1

[<06881d57>] rtl8139_thread+0x0/0x134 [8139too]
[<021041d9>] kernel_thread_helper+0x5/0xb
I already upgraded from the stock kernel from the CD distribution.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-utils-2.4-9.1.131
kernel-2.6.6-1.435
How reproducible:
Every minute. Every time I boot.
I have googled/searched bugzilla and found a couple of similar issues
but these were for a different module and different versions and I did
not think they were appropriate. These were for #116864 and #125482.
Do I need to upgrade the kernel further. If so where would I find such
a kernel?
------
Thanks

Wavewatcher TV PCI Card in Fedora Core 2
by David Marshall
Hello,
This my first message to the list after subscribing several days ago. I have
been reading some interesting information here and have learned some things
from the people on this list. Thanks to all.
I am a reasonably competent computer user but have not used Linux to a great
extent yet although I began using it over a year ago.
Now for my question:
Does anyone know whether AITech's Wavewatcher TV PCI card will work or can be
made to work with Fedora Core 2? If so, does anybody have any information
about how to do this?

by Lewi Kristianto
is there any way that we can raw print to printer
that attached to winxp from linux using cups,
the problem is that printer linux don't have driver
because that's GDI printer (photocopy machine sharp

Possible bug with ntpd and Iptables
by Scot L. Harris
I have noticed an anomaly with iptables and ntpd. During boot ntpd
opens up some ports in the firewall.
If you stop and start iptables these ports are no longer open. I
believe this would mean that ntp would stop working as expected.
I have not noticed any issues with the clock not tracking but it could
be a problem particularly for sites running certain authentication
packages which require time on the systems to be synchronized closely.
It also seems that if ntp requires ports to be open then they should be
configured in the normal /etc/sysconfig/iptables file.
Should this be reported in bugzilla or is there a logical reason things
are setup this way?

Thunderbird exports and Fedora Upgrading
by TroyGeek
Hello,
Usually when a new release of Fedora comes out I like to backup my data,
format the hard drive, and then then install a fresh release instead of
'upgrading' since it seems cleaner.
I use Mozilla Thunderbird for my email. I don't see any export options
to save my emails. I'm wondering how I can backup/export my email from
Thunderbird so that I can be prepared for when FC3 comes out and I
upgrade. I want to be able to keep all my email.
Any ideas? Just copy a directory or something?
thank you!
