Changing the Color Coded Filesystem
by General Manager
Hello,
Can Anyone tell me how I can change the color files systems. The color blue
for the "Directories" is really hard to see.
Also is there a way to change the background color?
Thanks

kudzu and modems.
by akonstam@trinity.edu
I can't understand the behavior of kudzu in respect to my serial
modem. After initial installation it detects the modem but after that
it is ignored. What I mean is I can remove the modem and kudzu ignores
the change, or I can remove the modem from the kudzu database and
kudzu ignores the change. I can run: kudzu --class MODEM and kudzu
will remove all my hardware from its database except the MOUSE but it
still ignores the modem.
How can I get kudzu to notice that I have changed, removed or added
the modem?

USB WiFi
by Timothy Murphy
Is anyone using USB WiFi devices with Fedora?
I have a Lucent/Orinoco USB Gold Client,
I have been looking at the
"Linux driver for Lucent/Agere ORiNOCO USB devices"
by Øystein Olsen at <http://folk.uio.no/oeysteio/orinoco-usb/>,
and have downloaded the Fedora-3 RPM.
Unfortunately, I find some of the instructions rather confusing.
(1) It says that
"The orinoco-usb driver is for now only available from cvs".
But I can't find an orinoco-usb CVS.
Does this mean the orinoco CVS?
In any case, since there is an orinoco-usb rpm.
I assume there must be a separate CVS for this application.
Is this a misunderstanding?
Or if not, where is the orinoco-usb CVS?
(2) It says in the introudction
In <http://folk.uio.no/oeysteio/orinoco-usb/index.html>
"The orinoco-usb driver is for now only available from cvs.
I put together this page to simplify
the building and installation of the driver.
The driver and script to build the driver,
are all available from the RPMS directory."
I don't understand this;
if the driver is only available from cvs
then what is the RPM?
(3) Later on the same page, it says
"April 2005
Thanks to a tip from Martin Visser, the firmware package is no longer
necessary. The firmware is hard-coded into the driver instead. In short if
you use a driver which is newer that April 4th 2005 or if you use
build-source.sh, you can safely ignore all instructions related to the
firmware and hotplug."
But where exactly does one find a driver newer than April 4th 2005?
Any suggestions or advice gratefully received.

OT: Power Supplies
by RoboticGolem
Does everyone here agree that a 500watt power supply is sufficient
enough for a dual MP 1800 board with 4 hard disks, DVDrom, cdrw,
dvdrw, and plenty of self powered usb hubs? I'm trying to figure out
whats up with my computer and my next stop is to call an electrician.

Network Manager drops wireless connections
by Chris Jones
Hi,
I've been using networkmanager for a while now, and in general have found it
to work well. However, recently it seems to have developed a problem. When
running a wireless connection it drops the connection every now and then. I
can sometimes reconnect by just clicking on the desired network again, but
sometimes I have to restart NetworkManager itself.
System :-
FC4, fully updated
kernel 2.6.14-1.1656_FC4
wireless is ipw2100
The contents of messages, related to NetworkManager are pasted below.
Does anyone else get this ? Could it be related to the firmware I am using,
which was updated a short time ago ? - I am using the freshrpms package
ipw2100-firmware (1.3-2). Could it instead be related to my wireless router ?
As an aside, how can I tell what version of the ipw2100 module comes with my
kernel ?
thanks in advance
Chris

.xsession with gdm
by William Yardley
So I enabled GDM, rather than logging in from console (I'm using
Windowmaker as my window manager, and I'm not using the Gnome stuff at
all).
I had this in my .xinitrc and .xsession:
xset b off
xmodmap -e 'keycode 115 = Multi_key'
xscreensaver &
exec /usr/bin/wmaker
however gdm doesn't seem to follow this (I did manage to switch the
session to use windowmaker, but the screensaver doesn't seem to get
started, and remapping the windows key to multi_key doesn't seem to be
working anymore).
Any ideas? Should I just switch to xdm?

Change permissions on /dev file?
by Toralf Lund
How can I update permissions on a device file on an FC4 setup? I mean, I
know I can use chmod, of course, but the problem is that for /dev
special files, the changes are lost on reboot.
More specifically, I have a SCSI scanner, and I (obviously) want to
access it as a regular user, but by default /dev/sg* can be read and
written only by root. How do I change that? (And why don't devices like
this automatically get user accessible?)
