OpenGL problems
by Ali Helmy
Hey lads,
I need to ask some help of you... here's my dilemma:
I wanted to install the TuxRacer <http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net/> game, so
i downloaded the .tar.gz file, and unpacked... on running ./configure
though, i got the following message:
configure: error: Your copy of glx.h is out of date. You can get a more
recent copy from the latest Mesa distribution (http://mesa3d.sourceforge.net
).
So, I strolled over to mesa3d and downloaded their latest installed library
pack... then when trying to install it by make install, i got:
mkdir ${INCLUDE_DIR}
mkdir: cannot create directory `/usr/local/include': File exists
mkdir ${INCLUDE_DIR}/GL
mkdir: cannot create directory `/usr/local/include/GL': File exists
mkdir ${INCLUDE_DIR}/GLES
mkdir: cannot create directory `/usr/local/include/GLES': File exists
mkdir ${LIB_DIR}
mkdir: cannot create directory `/usr/local/lib': File exists
cp -f ${TOP}/include/GL/*.h ${INCLUDE_DIR}/GL
cp -f ${TOP}/src/glw/*.h ${INCLUDE_DIR}/GL
# NOT YET: cp -f ${TOP}/include/GLES/*.h ${INCLUDE_DIR}/GLES
cp ${CP_FLAGS} ${TOP}/lib*/lib* ${LIB_DIR}
echo "Done."
Done.
Now, when i try and install tuxracer, i get the same message of the
out-dated glx header... so, i don't really know what to do...
Ideas?

gcc (GCC) 4.1.0 20060304 (Red Hat 4.1.0-3)

Compiles and installs fine. Modprobe spca5xx works fine. Here's the /var/log/messages output of doing a "modprobe spca5xx":

Next, I plug in the camera, and /var/log/messages gives:

But when I run spcaview, it freezes the machine. For obvious reasons I can't cut-n-paste the screen output. Any ideas?

Yum still not working after updating FC4-FC5
by Tim Alberts
I never had yum working in FC4 on my desktop machine. I just upgraded
to FC5 and yum is still not working. I think it's because the
repositores aren't updated to FC5, because the /etc/yum.conf file says
it is for FC3. My guess is if I update the config file with the correct
repositories, it will work. Any suggestions on how to do this?
I have the rpm packate yum-2.6.0-1.noarch.rpm on my computer, copied
from my install CD's. I have tried yum -i --force --replacefiles
yum-2.6.0-1.noarch.rpm (also tried the -U) and I still have the
same /etc/yum.conf file. Am I not using the correct rpm command?
Below is the output of 'yum update yum'

Fedora 5 DVD - hangs during dependency check
by Roberto Mason
I've download Fedora 5 DVD. I've done sha1sum check, all is fine. When I
first ran the install, I had the installation verify the DVD, everything
is fine. When i do either an upgrade or a fresh install, the system
hangs on the dependency check. Thinking that I had a bad burn, I re
burned a DVD, but I got the same result. Anyone else have the same
problem?

USB WiFi
by Timothy Murphy
Is anyone using USB WiFi devices with Fedora?
I have a Lucent/Orinoco USB Gold Client,
I have been looking at the
"Linux driver for Lucent/Agere ORiNOCO USB devices"
by Øystein Olsen at <http://folk.uio.no/oeysteio/orinoco-usb/>,
and have downloaded the Fedora-3 RPM.
Unfortunately, I find some of the instructions rather confusing.
(1) It says that
"The orinoco-usb driver is for now only available from cvs".
But I can't find an orinoco-usb CVS.
Does this mean the orinoco CVS?
In any case, since there is an orinoco-usb rpm.
I assume there must be a separate CVS for this application.
Is this a misunderstanding?
Or if not, where is the orinoco-usb CVS?
(2) It says in the introudction
In <http://folk.uio.no/oeysteio/orinoco-usb/index.html>
"The orinoco-usb driver is for now only available from cvs.
I put together this page to simplify
the building and installation of the driver.
The driver and script to build the driver,
are all available from the RPMS directory."
I don't understand this;
if the driver is only available from cvs
then what is the RPM?
(3) Later on the same page, it says
"April 2005
Thanks to a tip from Martin Visser, the firmware package is no longer
necessary. The firmware is hard-coded into the driver instead. In short if
you use a driver which is newer that April 4th 2005 or if you use
build-source.sh, you can safely ignore all instructions related to the
firmware and hotplug."
But where exactly does one find a driver newer than April 4th 2005?
Any suggestions or advice gratefully received.

OT: Power Supplies
by RoboticGolem
Does everyone here agree that a 500watt power supply is sufficient
enough for a dual MP 1800 board with 4 hard disks, DVDrom, cdrw,
dvdrw, and plenty of self powered usb hubs? I'm trying to figure out
whats up with my computer and my next stop is to call an electrician.

FC5 fails to boot after install
by jery_wang
here is the problem...after finishing the Installation, i reboot then Windows XP boots up like normal instead of grub. so i went into BIOS changed boot priority to :
1. [CDROM]
2. [HDD-1]
3. [HDD-0]
then all i get is a bash line:
GRUB>_
from here i don't know what to do...i find it odd that
stage2 didn't load.
it should be known that i'm using two hard drives.
tried using OSL2000 bootloader but that didn't work either, so i took it back off. i don't understand why it's doing this. FC4 didn't have this issue. thinking about trying the text based install and seeing what happens...but i'd rather not go that way. I'll wait for responses first before i make a decision.
*note*
i'm still a newbie to linux. kinda half migrating from MS untill i get comfortable with linux.

fc5 firefox won't open pdf: Unhandled MIME type: 'application/octet-stream'
by sean darcy
Since upgrading to fc5 firefox won't show pdf docs. I can
save the doc and open it in acroread, evince, etc.
When firefox tries to to show a pdf file I get an error window:
Unable to open document
Unhandled MIME type: 'application/octet-stream'
I've messed with mozpluggerrc to use acroread, then I tried
evince. Same problem.
FWIW, x86_64.
Any help appreciated
