nVidia drivers and TV-OUT
by Andrew
Hi,
I've got a 6600GT AGP card in my desktop and been trying to get it
to do dual display LCD + TV (for a while) Low-Def TV is PAL-Aus
On boot it shows the text screen on both the LCD and the TV, but
when I startx the TV goes strange (nothing that looks like hires
graphics)
To make matters worse I just got a 1680x1050 screen and had to
up my kernel (2.6.20-1.2944.fc6) and upgrade xorg server
(xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.1.1-47.8.fc6) to get that to work
Preferably as 2 screen rather than duplicating one screen on
both (since one is 1680x1050 and the TV is WAY smaller than that)
Can I do that with the nv driver or do I need the driver from
nVidia?
Has someone got a sample xorg.conf that works like this?
I've tried all sorts of options with the nv driver but have been
unable to get it to work since I'm not sure exactly how xorg.conf
should look or even if that works with the nv driver, and I can't
seem to find a clear example googling either
-Thanks for any help

YUM update dies with confict between poppler-utils and xpdf-utils
by Arch Willingham
I have two machines that are running into a problem when doing a YUM update (or YUMEX or PUP update) when they hit the poppler-utils package. The error is as follows:
Transaction Check Error: file /usr/bin/pdftoppm from install of poppler-utils-0.5.4-3.fc6 conflicts with file from package xpdf-utils-3.01-26.fc6
file /usr/share/man/man1/pdftoppm.1.gz from install of poppler-utils-0.5.4-3.fc6 conflicts with file from package xpdf-utils-3.01-26.fc6
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Anyone know what this means?
by Adam Hough
I get this from dmesg running FC5 2.6.18-1.2200.fc5smp. The machine
seems to be stable (was crashing very frequently before this kernel in
FC). Also yes I know to boot with noapci as a kernel parameter to most
likely get rid of this error. I am still curious as to what it means.
ACPI Exception (acpi_processor-0681): AE_NOT_FOUND, Processor Device is
not present [20060707]
ACPI: Getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x2
ACPI Exception (acpi_processor-0681): AE_NOT_FOUND, Processor Device is
not present [20060707]
ACPI: Getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x3
Also hyperthreading is disabled in the bios as the machine refuses to
boot if it is enabled with this kernel and all previous FC5 kernels
panic on this machine. Memory is fine also no errors after ~90 hours of
memtest86+. The motherboard and processors are new also.

Cursor problem
by Астахов Петр
Hello!
I bought motherboard Gigabyte GA-K8N51PVMT-9 on chipset GeForce 6150 and
installed FC5. I can't see cursor in X. When computer loading, and rhgb
show the progress of loading, I see cursor and everything OK. When
computer is loaded and X started, there is no viewable cursor on the
screen. I move mouse, all necessary menus etc are highlighted, but no
cursor. I update kernel and xorg - result the same. I installed nvidia
drivers for video from livna - but result the same - no cursor.
What shall I do?
With best regard, Peter (Zebar) Astakhov

Saving more than two kernels
by Richard A. Hogaboom
Is there some simple way of setting yum to save previous versions
of the kernel so that I can go back easily when new kernels cause
problems? more than the two default, say maybe 5?

"Win" key
by oleksandr korneta
Every time I restart my machine, the Win key (Super_R/L or mod4) stops
functioning, means - no key combinations involving this key work.
the out put of xmodmap looks fine to me.
$ xmodmap
xmodmap: up to 3 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):
shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lock Caps_Lock (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x6d)
mod1 Alt_L (0x40), Alt_L (0x7d), Meta_L (0x9c)
mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4 Super_L (0x7f), Hyper_L (0x80)
mod5 Mode_switch (0x5d), ISO_Level3_Shift (0x7c)
$
However, I found the way to bring it back. I run
gnome-keyboard-properties and change my the "Keyboard model" value from
"Generic 105-key (Intl) PC", which I have by default, to "Generic
102-key (Intl) PC" for instance, and close that window to apply the
changes. Amazingly, the Win key starts working. Now I can change this
value back original one. The story repeats on next start-up.
This is FC6 and I am using fluxbox as my window manager. What can be the
problem here?

interesting Evolution trash question
by Scott Berry
Hello there guys and gals,
I would like to know if you could either make a cron job that creates a job to clean my father's evolution trash folder or if there is a setting in Evolution which would allow you to clean the trash. He has a tendency to forget to clean his trash and I would like to run that a couple times a week for him? Thanks much.
Scott

Dries Repo Dead?
by Keith G. Robertson-Turner
I haven't seen any updates from either one of the following mirrors
since the 2nd of March:
rsync://apt.sw.be/pub/freshrpms/pub/dag/dries/fedora/linux/$release/$arch/RPMS.$repo/
rsync://ftp.belnet.be/packages/dries.ulyssis.org/fedora/fc$release/$arch/...
I know there was supposed to be a coordinated effort to move to
rpmforge, but AFAICT this is still incomplete.
Anyone know what's happening over there?
The Dries repo still has some packages that can't be found elsewhere.
