Mobile phone sync?
by Matthew Saltzman
I'm about to buy a phone and would like to get one that is capable of
syncing calendar and contacts with Evolution via Bluetooth or USB.
E-mail sync via IMAP or Exchange would be nice as well, though most
providers only seem to offer connectivity to some of the more popular
public e-mail services. I'm aware of Blackberry, but it's expensive for
personal use. iPhone apparently requires iTunes to sync with Outlook
(and it's more than I want to spend as well).
Any suggestions for software I need to get for Linux and devices that
will work well?
My provider choices are AT&T and Verizon.
TIA.

Press these key cause nothing.
The problem is ONLY in a console and ONLY with these keys.
1) system-config-keyboard ====> Spanish
2) /etc/X11/xorg.conf ===>
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "kbd"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "es"
EndSection
Both it's O.K. for me.

Thanks, it indeed works if I comment (require 'asdf) and (require
'asdf-install).
I can go on for now but finally I need to know what to do in order to
keep these expressions in my .sbclrc file.
Could it be an sbcl issue?

Nautilus will mount all drives but Konqueror will not.
by Scott Beamer
I run both KDE and GNOME in Fedora 8 (i386). I find that when I log into
KDE that I'm not able to access most of my other internal and external
drives.
After some poking around it dawned on me to try it with Nautilus. So I
launched Nautilus from with KDE and voila! My drives were accessible (in
both Nautilus and Konqueror).
However, this often does not apply to any NTFS formatted
partitions/drives. I'm usually only able to access them from Nautilus.
Other times I'm able to access them in Konqueror.
When I can't access them in Konqueror it gives me a bizarre error message.
I get an error message that reads "ERROR: have to rethink extra options".
It's very strange.
How do I get Konqueror to access all drives/partitions as easily as
Nautilus does?
Curiously,

FC8: Block Auto Updates Without GUI
by Michael D. Berger
My security software found that my small FC8 box
that has no GUI is automatically making ftp
connections with a mirror sight. How can I
prevent that from happening? For now, I have
blocked it with iptables, but I would like to
stop the attempts.
In case this the issue, here are the present
settings of yum-updatesd.conf :
[main]
run_interval = 3600
updaterefresh = 600
emit_via = dbus
dbus_listener = yes
do_update = no
do_download = no
do_download_deps = no
Please let me know if you would like to see
another configuration file.
Thanks for your help.

graphical desktop does not start after install
by Bruno Rebeschini
I just installed the F8 Unity Re-Spin on an old laptop, but the
graphical interface does not start.
I used all standard config options to get the desktop installed. Then on
first boot, I get the config options in text version to deal with
networking, time settings and so on... but I am not asked to create a
new user, and I eventually end-up on the command line interface with
only the root user available.
how can I get the graphical interface to start automatically?

how to read top output correctly
by lostson
Hello all I have a interesting question I use top in a terminal all the time and was wondering the proper way to read the memory usage in it. For instance currently my top says this
Mem: 1034948k total, 1008860k used, 26088k free, 96856k buffers
Now I have 1gig of memory in this machine and I only have 26088 free this seems wrong to me but what confuses me is what is buffers ?? Is this memory that is allocated to some programs ? it seems to me my free should be alot more 1gig of memory should be more than sufficient. I am running gnome as my desktop and have a few programs running but that is about it. So where does all my memory go ? Thanks.

F7 to F8 upgrade - gnome-terminal font not so sharp now
by Chris G
I have just installed Fedora 8 as a replacement for my Fedora 7
system, it went amazingly smoothly. I still have a working F7
istallation in parallel with the F8 one while I copy configuration
etc. across.
It seems to me that the font I use in gnome-terminal is slightly
fuzzier looking in F8 than it was in F7, have I lost anti-aliasing or
something like that maybe? How can I tell?
