Installing F12 on Mactel
by Leon Stringer
Hi,
I've tried to install F12 on my Core 2 Duo iMac. The installation seemed
to go okay but there's no sign of Fedora when I boot. I hold down the
<Option> key and just get the MacOS partition. Is there a trick to this?
Thanks in advance,
Leon...

Is KDE dead ? Was Re: Stable Release Updates
by Genes MailLists
I'm curious how many current KDE users we have - what percent of our
install base? And what percent of the desktop install base ?
Since the 3.5 -> 4.0 KDE pushathon, everyone I know who was a KDE user
(myself included, and Linus too!) switched to gnome and none has yet
gone back.
At least a part of the fuss about updates seems to be driven by KDE
wanting to be faster paced than the rest - I'm curious what percent of
our install base this actually represents today?
For me there were only 2 things disruptive I presently recall - the
last was F11 kmail no longer working after recent update - and the
devastatingly bad 3.5 -> 4.0 premature release.
I actually like the current general pace - its stable but we get
decent flow (tho it has slowed somewhat over the 12-18 months or so it
seems) of upstream updates/bug fixes and largely when appropriate larger
version bumps. Tho things like firefox lag too much imho - but I no
longer care as I now use chrome which is way way better.
Sure there are little hiccups here and there but overall things are
non-disruptive and decently up to date - and that is the right balance.
Congrats fedora management, redhat and contributors - and thank you.

Looking for a monitor driver
by Margaret Doll
We are trying to attach a Dell E2210H monitor to a Dell X260 Optiplex
which is running 2.6.10-1.771_FC2.
I have found the drivers for Windows but not for Fedora. Where can I
access monitor drivers for Fedora?

How to Update Firefox with Fedora 12 and use Firefox's "Check for Updates"?
by Michael Bullington
To whom it shall concern,
I am very angry that I am unable to update Firefox manually using Firefox
because the "Check for Updates" menu option from Firefox is dimmed out.
The information from Mozilla states I need to have sufficient access
authority to be able to "Check for Updates".
How can I do this with Fedora 12?
I feel I should have the ability to start Firefox and be able to "Check for
Updates" as I please and *NOT WHAT SOMEBODY AT RED HAT OR FEDORA WANTS ME TO
DO THINGS!*

Fox News Channels videos won't play
by Temlakos
I've come back to this issue of the Fox News Channel videos not wanting
to play, because perhaps I have some more information that might provide
a clue.
Fox News Channel hosts a number of videos, and provides an embedding
link to each one. About an hour ago, I went to find one. When my Fedora
12/Firefox 3.5.8 setup wouldn't play nice, I went to another machine
that had Windows XP on it. I was able to play the video there, and to
get the embedding script. I got it and pasted it into an article I wrote.
And when I went to display my article, guess what? The video wouldn't play.
Here is the link to the article I wrote, that has the embedded video:
<http://www.examiner.com/x-28973-Essex-County-Conservative-Examiner~y2010m...>
Here is the embedding URL I used:
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://video.foxnews.com/v/embed.js?id=4106724&w=400&h=249"></script><noscript>Watch
the latest news video at <a
href="http://video.foxnews.com/">video.foxnews.com</a></noscript>
And now: here is what that script embed.js contains:
if(document.domain.indexOf('rightscoop') < 0) { document.write(''); }
And that's it.
Every other video site I have visited will play nice--YouTube, Google
Video, everyone. What is wrong with Fox?
Am I missing a plugin, perhaps? Here's the output of about:plugins on my
browser:

Why? If it's the root of the problem... Besides "others" are free to make their own decisions, are they not?
As it turned out, the OP's update/F12 problem was related to his own settings and not selinux, but initially insufficient info was given to discern that. However, my F12 update problem was. And it wasn't the first time. To date, I don't know if it's fixed. Perhaps on my next update, I'll "enable" selinux and see what happens.

no flash in chromium-browser (from /spot.fedorapeople.org/chromium/F12/)
by Neal Becker
flash works in google-chrome. This is F12-x86_64. Using
32-bit flash wrapped for 64 bit.
In chromium-browser 5.0.365.0 flash is detected, but does not work. In
about:plugins flash is there (1st item). But visiting a flash site says
'missing plugin'. I duplicated the working google-chrome setup (copied
/opt/google/chrome/plugins to /usr/lib64/chromium-browser/plugins, which is
all just symlinks to /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins-wrapped, and which all works
in google-chrome and in firefox).
