Video is slow
by Roger
I'm using Fedora 19 with the standard Nouveau video driver.
I've noticed that when re positioning gui windows with mouse, movement
is increasingly glunky, jerking in 5-10mm steps in any direction. When
dragging a border of a gui window the mouse moves to almost 100 mm
before edge of the window moves.
I usually have the /home/rails-projects/project directory open, Geany, a
terminal or two and a browser, opera, firefox or chrome. Geany may have
several files open simultaneously.
CPUs run at about 60%. memory, 2gig runs at about 55-80% depending on
what's running. Swap is at nil.
Have a 2 gig Geforce GT8600 video card which is very goo d at 3d Blender
stuff.
I swapped over to Ubuntu 13.04 which uses the Nvidia driver and there
is no problem at all with movement no mater how many gui windows are
open and operating. Ubuntu is so slow to open I hesitate to use it.
Mind you, lately Fedora 19 is taking sometimes over60 seconds to open.
Is there any fix for the Fedora 19 Nouveau jerky movement?
TIA

phone no longer mounts over usb
by Gregory Hosler
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi all,
I have a Samsong phone. I used to mount it as Mass Storage (selected on the
phone) over the micro usb connection, to copy files to/from.
Starting with kernel 3.10.3-300.fc19.x86_64, and continuing with kernel
3.10.4-300.fc19.x86_64 this no longer works.
Relevant snippets from /var/log/messages under both kernels attached.
I will bugzilla, but I wish to know whether anyone else has seen this change
of behavior.
All the best,
- -Greg

What does "require" actually mean?
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I thought I had a working understanding of yum and rpm, until I came
across this:
# rpm -q --whatrequires libvdpau
no package requires libvdpau
# yum --assumeno erase libvdpau
[snip]
Transaction Summary
==============================================================================================================
Remove 1 Package (+147 Dependent packages)
...
Why does yum want to remove 147 additional packages if none of them
require libvdpau? (Note that I'm not asking about libvdpau specifically,
it's just an example).

Fedora 19: FirewallD and network bridge
by Mateusz Marzantowicz
I'd like to configure FirewallD to protect qemu/kvm host and maybe
guests but the second one is not so important for me because each guest
has it's own firewall.
What I don't understand is how FirewallD works with network bridges.
Currently, I have bridge (br0) in trusted zone to allow as much traffic
as possible, and p3p1 (which is NIC connected to switch) in public zone.
When I put bridge in public zone I cut off networking from guests.
My question is, should I change rules on bridge or p3p1 and what is the
correlation between them? What should I configure to pass networking
traffic to guests but protect all ports on host system?

Can't read DVD
by Martin S
I have a set of DVDs - about 6 years old - I wanted to check out what was on
them. All but 1-2 produce input/output erros and can't be read.
I opened them on my wifes Windows box, and they were read without any problems
at all.
In Dolphin it opens as empty.
[mskjoldebrand@dragon K3b data project]$ ls
ls: reading directory .: Input/output error
[mskjoldebrand@dragon K3b data project]$ sudo tail -s 3 -f /var/log/messages
Aug 24 09:48:11 dragon kernel: [11573.619129] iso9660: Corrupted directory
entry in block 0 of inode 53504
Can something be done?

Thank you so much for the workaround. It is working in Fedora 19 for me,
and I was able to use the old cryptroot-ask.sh file. Going forward, how
can I modify the systemd services on Fedora 19 to allow for a key file
located on a USB drive and allow for two factor authentication? In
Fedora it is not clear to me how to make changes to the
systemd-cryptsetup process chain.
Thank you,
