command line controlling gnome-alsamixer
by Tim
Is there a way to control gnome-alsamixer, so I can toggle the mute on
and off for microphone *monitoring*? (That's hearing it back through
the soundcard, using the hardware mixer.)
Or another controller for the mixer? No, the CLI alsamixer doesn't give
control for that parameter. Well, not that I can see.
I want to hear sidetone when doing VOIP while wearing headphones. And I
don't want to have to open the mixer panel every time I start or stop a
VOIP session.
Leaving the microphone monitoring on all the time isn't an option. It
adds unwanted noise, and is a potential audio feedback source if not
wearing headphones.

cut & paste & virt viewer?
by Tom Horsley
Cutting or copying in my main desktop and pasting into
a virtual machine in virt viewer has always "just worked"
as long as I can remember. Today it isn't working.
I think saw a lot of qemu and libvirt updates come through
recently. Anyone know if something broke this? Or is it only
broken for me?

libsndfile build on FC22
by Leonard den Ottolander
Hi,
The lisbsndfile-1.0.25-14.fc22 spec removes the GSM610 code and then
does an autoreconf.
What is the GSM610 code and why is it removed?
What is the autoreconf step supposed to accomplish? Build seems fine on
CentOS 6 without it.
Regards,
Leonard.

Unable to compile audacity (from fedora source rpm)
by JD
Hi all,
I wanted audacity to have mp3 handling enabled.
So I downloaded
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/updates/22/SRPMS/a/audacity-...
and edited audacity.spec to enable mp3, thus:
I changes the second line from
%bcond_without mp3
to
%bcond_with mp3
and ran rpmbuild ..... etc.
The compiler issues numerous notes and warnings, and one error.
The build failed with the error:

Where is the apper/packagekit log?
by Jonathan Ryshpan
Where does packageKit, which is (I assume) invoked by the KDE apper
program, keep its log. The log can be viewed in apper, but I would
like to have it in text form, so I can edit and search it. The
Fedora "User Guide - Managing Software" claims "Every completed
transaction records the affected packages in the log file /var/log/dnf.
log", but I can't find any records of updated packages there.
Thanks - jon

file sharing, screen sharing printer sharing
by Antonio M
after latest updates personal file sharing is not working (I can see
personal shares on PC1 on same machine, and so on, that is useless).
When I try to use VNC I do not see any computer on the window where I
should choose the machine to be connected..
And last but not least I cannot print to a remote printer.
Everything was ok untl October 16th.

audacity playback too fast
by Frank Elsner
Hi Community,
when recording with audacity and saving as .wav I can play the file with play
(from sox package) without problems. All perfect.
But when I klick "play" in audacity the recording (or imported .wav)
plays far too fast. I guess 10 times too fast.
Project Rate is 44100, and with the previously installed Fedora 14 (shame on me)
I never had this problem.
How to get the playback in correct speed?
Kind regards, Frank Elsner

WiFi with F22 bad performance
by Frank Elsner
Hi Community,
after installation of Fedora 22 on a Lenovo C200 I have the problem that WiFi
performance goes down from time to time.
I've already added "options iwl3945 11n_disable=1" for the module.
The normal performance is around 14 MB/s and suddenly it goes down
to under 1 MB/s. Disconnect/connect sometimes helps.
When running the good old fedora 14 I've never seen a problem
with WiFi on the same laptop.
Any pointer to a solution is very welcome.
Kind regards, Frank Elsner
