Did I kill it?
by Tom Horsley
Moved my GeForce GTX 960 from my old computer to my new
one, installed akmod-nvidia, but when I try to play HDMI
audio through it, I get left channel only, and the audio
from it is more static than the sound it is supposed
to play. Did I zap something on the video card? It worked
fine in the old computer. (No video problems).
I now have the optical output going to my receiver, and that
works, but means I have to have the receiver on to get
any sound (a bit irritating).

No visible mouse pointer
by Paolo Galtieri
I have successfully upgraded one system to F31, however, it still
exhibits the same problem it has had under F30, namely no visible mouse
pointer. The mouse does work since I have configured my MATE desktop to
display the mouse pointer location when I press the ctrl key. This only
works once I am logged in, until then I have to move the mouse until I
see something change to know where the mouse is. Does anyone have a
solution to this problem?

Upgrading to f31
by Paolo Galtieri
Folks,
I was trying to upgrade one of my systems to f31 by running:
sudo dnf system-upgrade download --skip-broken --refresh --releasever=31
but the attempt fails with:
Error:
Problem: package cmake-fedora-2.9.3-5.fc31.noarch requires
packagedb-cli, but none of the providers can be installed
- problem with installed package cmake-fedora-2.9.3-4.fc30.noarch
- packagedb-cli-2.14.1-9.fc30.noarch does not belong to a distupgrade
repository
- cmake-fedora-2.9.3-4.fc30.noarch does not belong to a distupgrade
repository
removing these 2 packages results in the removal of over 50 other packages.
So what do I need to do to do the upgrade?
Any help is appreciated.

Keepassx export Import -
by Bob Goodwin
What is the secret to copying the Keepassx database into another
computer? It has always been difficult for me, this morning it seems
impossible. I see no point in making it so secure that it can't be done.
Simply copying a file would not seem to reduce its security ... I have
spent an hour messing with exporting and importing the databases this
morning! No matter what, it simply rejects it. I ran the "Repair
Database" application and it finds nothing to repair.

dnf questions
by François Patte
Bonjour,
1- Consulting the dnf log files, I could see that there is one hour
difference between the reported log and the time of the event, ie.: I
used dnf to install some package at 18h46 and in the log file, I can see:
2019-12-29T17:46:08Z SUBDEBUG Installed:
python3-samba-2:4.10.10-0.fc30.x86_64
Why?
2- Some packages create a new entry in the /etc/group file. I don't
mind.... up to the time when rkhunter warns me that a new entry has been
created in this file...
How can we know the culprit package? And why this information is not
reported in the dnf log files?
Thank you.

bluetooth for centos?? -- offtopic
by bruce
Hi.
Doing some research on older centos systems. Thought I'd post here as
well. Trying to see if there's a way to hook a bluetooth pair of
earbuds to a centos 6 laptop to be able to hear the audio..
Selecting the initial bluetooth icon shows "no bluetooth adapters present"
I assume this might be a kernel issue or some other packages that need
to be installed.
Thanks

grub.cfg and kernel video resolution
by Robert McBroom
With the deprecating of the "vga=791" specification, what is the method
of passing the video resolution to the kernel in a text mode boot? The
setting in grub.cfg gives the grub menu resolution but the kernel drops
back to 640x480 when it starts unless the vga specification is added to
the command line.

Fedora 31: network bridge does not get an IP address
by Patrick Mansfield
Hi -
Upgraded from Fedora 29 to Fedora 31, and I'm unable to get my network bridge
working.
Any ideas on how to get this working?
I saw the other posts about adding MACADDR, but I'm not using DHCP and I don't care
what MAC address is used.
I have a fixed IP address in my network script, this:
[umbrella network-scripts]$ more ifcfg-br0
DEVICE=br0
TYPE=Bridge
IPADDR=192.168.1.1
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=static
NM_CONTROLLED=yes
DELAY=0
But AFAIR br0 did not get an IP address. I'm not 100% sure of the exact failure, as
I had difficulty using the console as it that was being spammed by a firewall
message output apparently because the bridge was not up, and I had to disable the
bridge and use one network for now so I can get normal internet access.
And then I'm bridging these two ethernet devices:
[umbrella network-scripts]$ more ifcfg-lan1
DEVICE=lan1
HWADDR=74:d0:2b:a2:7d:a9
BOOTPROTO=none
ONBOOT=yes
NM_CONTROLLED=yes
BRIDGE=br0
TYPE=Ethernet
USERCTL=no
[umbrella network-scripts]$ more ifcfg-lan2
DEVICE=lan2
HWADDR=00:48:54:62:2f:7a
BOOTPROTO=none
ONBOOT=yes
NM_CONTROLLED=yes
BRIDGE=br0
TYPE=Ethernet
USERCTL=no
Thanks ...

Upgraded F31 system still believes it is living in the past, on
F30!
by Ranjan Maitra
Dear friends,
I upgraded my F30 system today using:
sudo dnf upgrade --releasever 31
Worked "fine" but for the following:
https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/lvm2-monitor-service-runs-endlessly-on-st...
Duly fixed with:
sudo systemctl mask lvm2-monitor.service
System came up after the second masking, but while it shows uname -a:
5.3.16-300.fc31.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Dec 13 17:59:04 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
When I go for:
$ sudo dnf clean all
$ sudo dnf update

Nothing to do.
Complete!
Amusing, but how do I get this system to not believe that it is living in the past?
This is my fourth upgraded system, three today, but this is the one with the issues.
Happy to provide more information as needed.
Many thanks again for any and all help!
Best wishes,
Ranjan
