Xbox 360 controller on Fedora 32
by Greg Woods
It has been a couple of years (which means 4 or 5 Fedora releases ago)
since I did this, but I used to be able to play Xonotic using my Xbox 360
Wireless controller. Now I cannot get the controller to work properly in
F32 (it works in Windows 10 so I know the hardware is OK).
This most likely has something to do with the move from xboxdrv (which is
no longer available in Fedora) to xpad kernel driver, and/or the move from
the old js driver to evdev. The xpad driver comes with the current kernel,
but what I cannot figure out is how to calibrate the controller. If I run
Xontic with the controller connected, the game world just spins
counterclockwise. This is a symptom of the controller needing to be
calibrated, but I don't know how to do it. I tried using "jscal", but if I
run "jscal -c" to calibrate it, it appears to work but doesn't. I can
immediately run "jscal -t" and it will say it is not calibrated, and
running "jstest" also shows it is not calibrated (several of the axes are
not centered, i.e. show nonzero values in jstest).
I attempted to download and compile xboxdrv, but it does not work due to
Python 2 vs. 3 incompatibilities, and it doesn't look like any work has
been done on xboxdrv in quite some time. If I try to make it, I get this:
root@snowcrash xboxdrv-linux-0.8.8]# make
scons
scons: Reading SConscript files ...
File "/local/src/xboxdrv-linux-0.8.8/SConstruct", line 34
print target
^
SyntaxError: Missing parentheses in call to 'print'. Did you mean
print(target)?
make: *** [Makefile:24: xboxdrv] Error 2
Certainly looks like Python version incompatibility.
Can anybody point me to information on how to use an Xbox 360 controller on
F32, or how to calibrate it when using the xpad driver? I have done a lot
of Googling, but most of the articles I found mention things like "apt-get
install xboxdrv", showing they were written for Ubuntu rather than Fedora
and are wanting to use the xboxdrv driver.
Thank you,

puzzling SELinux alert.
by home user
At least 3 times in the past few days I've seen the same SELinux alert.
I put the text of the details in the attached file "alerts.txt". All 3
occurrences were while using caja to rename or delete a file, though it
does not happen every time I rename or delete a file in caja. These
alerts confuse me. There is no directory "/memdf:"...
-bash.1[~]: cd /
-bash.2[/]: ls -a
. boot etc lib64 mnt root srv system-upgrade usr
.. .cache home lost+found opt run sys system-upgrade-root var
bin dev lib media proc sbin sysroot tmp
-bash.3[/]: ls -a /memfd*
ls: cannot access '/memfd*': No such file or directory
-bash.4[/]:
Also, the directory name (ending with a colon?) looks fishy. Further,
the filename ".nvidia_drv.XXXXXX" looks fishy (but "legal").
The instruction does not work:
-bash.4[/]: /sbin/restorecon -v /memfd:/.nvidia_drv.XXXXXX (deleted)
-bash: syntax error near unexpected token `('
-bash.4[/]:
-bash.5[/]: /sbin/restorecon -v /memfd:/.nvidia_drv.XXXXXX
/sbin/restorecon: SELinux: Could not get canonical path for
/memfd:/.nvidia_drv.XXXXXX restorecon: No such file or directory.
-bash.6[/]:
I gather that a directory and or file (whatever its name really is) are
missing?
How do I fix this?

System Failure?
by home user
I did my weekly patches (dnf upgrade), rebooted, and logged in as a
regular user. A problem popped-up. The top part of the details is
below. I'm not (yet) seeing any other problems. Is this a false
alarm? If not, what should I do?
---------------
not-reportable
The backtrace does not contain enough meaningful function frames to be
reported. It is annoying but it does not necessarily signalize a problem
with your computer. ABRT will not allow you to create a report in a bug
tracking system but you can contact kernel maintainers via e-mail.

Restored f33 on new drive from a tarball now a problem
by Robert McBroom
New drive has the same msdos partition structure as the old. Legacy
system with boot partition on a separate drive and from the root
partition. System boots in mode 3 as specified but entering id and
password flashes some text and returns to the login. Edited the grub
entry to try a graphical boot but still get textmode.
What can be done to get access to f33?

Hi,
running an full updated Fedora 33 I have the following problem:
For a few days I have been observing that the screen isn't locked
when the system comes up after suspend. What could I have changed
unintentionally or is a general problem?

F34 cannot load kernel modules

Dear All,
I have just upgraded from F33 to F34, and everything seems to be
working fine except when booting: a message appears saying:
Failed to load kernel modules.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,

Fedora 34, kde, wayland, klipper, no primary selection
by Aleksandar Kostadinov
Hi,
I just upgraded from Fedora 32. Now KDE uses wayland. I configure in
clipboard settings to sync primary seletion to no avail. Primary
selection only usable within the same window.
I read on the internet it should be working.
Any ideas?
PS Any idea how to fix kwallet that gives me this after entering my gpg
key password:
> Encryption error while attempting to save the wallet kdewallet. Error
code is 53 (Unusable public key). Please fix your system configuration,
then try again. This error may occur if you are not using a full trust
GPG key. Please ensure you have the secret key for the key you are using.

Receiving files via Bluetooth
by m3freak@thesandhufamily.ca
Hello,
I have an old BlackBerry Z30 successfully paired with my Fedora 32
desktop. I can send files to the phone from Fedora without any
problems. But, for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to receive
files from the phone.
Every time I try to share a file over BlueTooth from the phone to my
paired desktop, the phone starts the transfer and then immediately
errors out with the message, "Failed to find service".
I've tried a number very random things, but nothing seems to work. I
don't even know how to start explaining what I've tried. :/ Frustrated
doesn't begin to explain what I'm feeling right now because two other
file transfer methods from the phone that have worked in years past
refuse to work now. I figured that Bluetooth would be the simplest!
Is this suppose to just work or have I neglected to do something?

F33->F34: paps output has changed
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
Thank you to the Fedora team for the F34 roll-out; upgrades were seamless:
seemingly a trend not an anomoly.
I'm a paps users (paps is a PostScript converter from plain text file
using Pango), having at one time used enscript.
My general CLI invocation has been:
paps --columns=3 --landscape --paper=letter --font="Arial 6" /tmp/x3 | lpr -P lp3
This is generally sent to an HP53xx printer. /tmp/x3 is just a temporary
text file copied from somewhere else.
With the F34 upgrade, the output is a little uneven in print quality as
far as the fonts are concerned.
I've tried changing the "Arial 6" to "Serif 6", then to "Sans 6"
The last seems to be satifactory. The goal here is to print text files of
from a variety of sources: code, essays, articles, etc., in a compact
space to read. Not so much to print publication-quality stuff.
I would be interested in suggestions from other paps users on their
preferred
Much thanks,
Max Pyziur
