Hi,
I've installed the kernel-module-ntfs package with yum, but when i run the 'yum update' command the package isn't updated. Can anyone tell me why?
Daniel.

It is not in a yum repository. (at least not in one you have enabled).

I can't understand, Jeff. I installed the package running " yum install kernel-module-ntfs-'uname -r' ". So, if the package has installed successfully it should be updated when i run the Yum update command. Or not? :)

addon kernel module packages are not automatically updated - the version of the kernel they are built for is part of the name of the package - so that it is easier to have multiple versions installed without updates replacing the earlier ones.
You have to explicitly request the new module for your new kernel. Usually (at least from livna) they appear very quickly.
Thanks, Michael.

Yes, you have explained how the bug behaves. It is still a bug. Why would I install kernel-mod-x, then update the kernel, and not want the new kernel mod installed also by default?

Because a scheme where the name did not change did not work in the past with yum and failed for a lot of users. As a result to that we started with the scheme we use ATM. We're working on a better solution. Please be patient. thx
