Dear All,
I have just installed Skype on F16 x64, which is working fine except the microphone -- I can view and hear the other call party, but she cannot hear. Is there some way to repair this?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

I had the same situation with F14 (32bit) on an Lenovo laptop. I bougth an external USB Soundcard, connected headphone and mic jack to this and it worked. Now I'm using an (native) USB headset.

start What does it for me is to run a test call before the real call (let Skype adjust levels).

I'm using an USB webcam with integrated microphone (logitech), and I had the same problem with skype, until I openend the sound system settings in gnome-shell, and I saw 2 input devices: One of the soundcard (I have no attached microphone there!) and that of the webcam (USB). Switching the microphone to that of the webcam by the system settings sound menu solved my problem. There is only one issue: I have to repeat this procedure each time I start sky again.

Check your main sound settings. Is the input device set to the right thing - mine was set to the internal sound card by default, and I needed to select the usb webcam instead.

Thanks to all respondents! I have meanwhile changed something on the audio settings and got Skype working fine. However, I changed something afterwards, and now the microphone does not work anymore with Skype. Is there some program to test the microphone?

Install the PulseAudio volume control (yum install pavucontrol) and use it. It allows you to see the various inputs and change the inputs while you watch the levels in real time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - Rick Stevens, Systems Engineer, AllDigital ricks@alldigital.com - - AIM/Skype: therps2 ICQ: 22643734 Yahoo: origrps2 - - - - Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a - - rigged demo. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I still have Fedora 13 installed. I use this for skype - both mic and video work for me - though I have x32
alias skype='LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype'
does this help?

I have the same installation. check the 2 sound apps. In the app search bar type sound and you will see the 2 apps. One is to set the driver to the correct input and output and set the volume and the other allows you to record and playback as a test that all is working ok.
