Assuming there are no extraneous characters on each line following the filename, and assuming every line in the file has a filename:

Subject: OT: sed or awk command to add a file extension
Dear fellow Fedora users I have a file with entries \input{file1}\input{file2}...\input{fileN} How can I add extension\input{file1.eps}\input{file2.eps}.\input{file3.eps} In case I need to add *jpg or *.png extension. I believe awk or sed would do the job. Thanks in advance Best Regards, Antonio Sent from ProtonMail (), encrypted email based in Switzerland. Good morning,
I want to see console logging during shutdown automatically, by default.
How do I do that?
thanks,
Bill.

startup application
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
After the update from fc36 to fc38, I am experiencing a small glitch
In tweak I set up a Terminal in Startup Applications
(actually there are 2 applications listed, the other one is started properly).
On one machine the "terminal" application is never started up when I
login in graphics mode (it is fine on the other machine [same distribution]).
Some ideas?
Thanks.

Recent kernels and USB keyboard/mouse connections
by ja
Fully updated F38 machine.
(Installed from scratch using an XFCE live image)
I have successfully been using a KVM switch between my machines
for 6 months or more.
"Some" recent kernels have introduced delays in switching and various
forms of lockup.
However the most recent kernel vmlinuz-6.4.4-200.fc38.x86_64 has caused
complete freezes of the machine, the only way out being a physical power off.
(I am writing this using kernel 6.3.11-200.fc38.x86_64 which seems OK)
During a "switch/freeze" journalctl shows very nasty errors given below.
Has anyone seen anything similar or any thoughts about the problem?
Thanks
John

dev system for building test android apps -- prob off topic!
by bruce
Hi.
Probably OFF TOPIC!!
Thinking of testing out building/creating a couple of test android
mobile apps. Looking over different docs/sites/forums, it appears the
dev/text system needs to be somewhat hefty!
So, thought I'd ask here for thoughts if anyone has done this. What
did you use in terms of cpu/drive/mem? Or did you just do a cloud
instance?
thanks

sleeping machine?
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
Since I update from fedora36 to 38, I am in trouble to connect to my
machine by using dwagent.
One reason could be that when I am not logged on the machine, it falls to
sleep, and it does not accept to serve dwagent.
1) Is it possible?
2) It is possible, how can I keep the service (dwagent) really alive?
Thanks.

Understanding SD data transfer
by Geoffrey Leach
Fedora 37, up-to-date
Controller JMicron Technology
Medium 1TB SanDisk ultra SD, sped transfer rate 120MB/sec
DATA 155MB
df /Media/SDXC says its 26% full
% mount /Media/SDXC
% time cp DATA /Media/SDXC
real 0m0.145s
user 0m0.001s
sys 0m0.41s
% time cp DATA /Media/SDXC
real 2m44.656s
user 0m0.002s
sys 0m0.211s
I assume that the first cp just 'fills the queue, but even assuming
that I then have 310MB transferring, that's pretty slow.
Thoughts?

SATA drive rescan?
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
I have a removable drive sleeve that I mount SATA
drives mounted in that attaches to an internal SATA
port. I use it backup my system to removable
drives. The mechanism works identical to USB
flash drives.
With one exception. A drive MUST be in the
carriage when I boot up. Otherwise, if I insert
a drive AFTER the system is booted up, the drive
is invisible to the system.
Now I have seen Clonzilla re-educating the system
as to what drives are where. Is there a way to
goose Fedora to do the same? Is there
a way to rescan without having to reboot?
Many thanks,
-T
