Hey guys!
I hope everyone's had a good day so far. In light of the recent hackathon
phenomenon in the younger developer crowd, I think Fedora representation in
this culture would give us a huge boost. Hackathons are similar to Fedora
Activity Days, where large amounts of student hackers ("an enthusiastic and
skillful computer programmer or user") gather to create innovative projects
in a 24 to 48-hour timeframe.
For instance, at PennApps (
pennapps.com), students flock to the University
of Pennsylvania for a 36-hour competition in which students create hacks,
make new friends, and connect with sponsoring companies/organisations. Some
past PennApps sponsors include Google, Facebook, and CIsco, but also
numerous smaller startups such as Postmates or Quixey.
The hackathon I am personally the most familiar with is PennApps. The next
PennApps is going to be in September 2015, so we still have some time to
plan. I haven't created an event page yet due to undecided details, but I
will in the near future. Sponsorship amounts are negotiable, and I've
already gotten in touch with organisers.
Are any FamNA ambassadors interested in attending a hackathon if we end up
sponsoring one?
TL;DR: We should sponsor a hackathon! Who's interested in attending, if we
do sponsor one? Suggestions welcome!
