Fedora 16 - Quite a lot of KDE stuff crashing
by Sonic
Hi
After a fresh install of Fedora 16:
1. Every time I log in to KDE, abrt reports a crash in 'tracker' package
I updated my installation of Fedora 16 a couple of days back. I also
installed nvidia proprietary drivers from RPMFusion. Now:
1. tracker crash is gone
2. Every time I log in, abrt reports crash in 'nvidia-settings'
3. When I start Thunderbird, abrt reports a crash, but Thunderbird
starts fine
4. Some KDE applications - akregator & ktorrent fail to start with
segfault reported by the KDE crash handler
5. KDE apps like korganizer, kate, kwrite, konsole etc. start fine
6. On subsequent attempts, KTorrent starts OK, but akregator always crashes
Is anyone else seeing something similar?

Syam

F16 and NFS shares in removable devise notifier
by Martin (KDE)
Hallo
since my upgrade to fedora 16 I have all my NFS shares in Dolphin and in the
removable device notifier (Geräteüberwachung - device monitor?). As the NFS
shares are mounted at boot time this is next to useless. How can I remove the
NFS drives? Once there was a configuration dialogue to set which kind of media
I want to see but I can not find it.
If I set it to view only removable devices the NFS devices are listed and if I
set it to view only NON removable devices NFS devices are listed as well.
Anyone else?

window menu nit
by Neal Becker
OK, it's a nit. With recent updates (f16), right click on window title
frequently (randomly?) opens the menu in a random place on the screen, not near
the window just clicked.

KDE virtual desktop use being depreciated?
by Ed Greshko
I'm just wondering if the concept of using "virtual desktops" is being
phased out in KDE.
The reason I ask/wonder is that with F16 when one brings up KDE the
"pager" widget is not visible on the default panel. A little poking
around reveals you have to increase the number of "virtual desktops" to
be more than the default of 1 in "system settings", "workspace behavior".
So, under the current default configuration a person new to KDE may not
have a clue that an option exists for "virtual desktops".
It even took me a bit of time to realize what was happening. In F15 the
default number of "virtual desktops" was set to 4.

Nepomuk/Strigi is always doing initial indexing?
by Martin Kho
Hi,
Every time I log in into fedora 16 KDE Nepomuk/Strigi runs an initial indexing
session. In nepomukstrigirc I see that the option "first run" is set to "true".
I've tried to set it to false*, but a 'hidden power' resets it to true.
Did someone else sees this? Does anyone know how I can stop the initial
indexing without disabling strigi? Can it be a side effect of the commit:
"nepomuk/services/strigi: Introduced hidden config option to disable initial
indexing." [1]?
Thanks,
Martin Kho
*) changed the value when in runlevel3.target.

Is there a way to force a start up application to a specific activity when I log in?
by Richard Sewill
I have the impression I should be using activities instead of desktops.
I assume, if I am already in an activity, all windows created will
be launched in that activity, so manually starting applications
is not the issue.
My problem is for applications that are launched automatically,
at start up when I log in.
I've been forcing specific applications to specific desktops because
I know how to do this.
For example,
I can click the upper left window icon, I can go to advanced,
and select Special Window Settings... or Special Application Settings...
and select the Geometry tab and specify which desktop the
application and/or window should start in.
Names I have for Desktops are like, Home, Admin, Work, Play, ....
I want to read email in "Admin" because, usually,
email is administrative stuff for me.
I want to start pidgin in Home because chat is not really admin,
nor is it work or play.
Is there a way to force these applications to start in the desired
activities if I switch from using Desktops to Activities,
and name my Activities, Home, Admin, Work, Play?
I wish the Geometry tab had an Activity line like it has
a desktop line.
I realize I should try to read the documentation, on activities, again.
I tried to read docs a while ago, think about a year ago, and got confused.
If people don't mind, I'd like to add an orthogonal question about activities.
When I wish to switch Desktops, I can do ctrl-F1, ctrl-F2, etc.
Is there a similar way to select Activities?
I can always use the ALT-D,ALT-A to bring up the Activities window,
but I am a keyboard person more than a mouse person.

Please help me to get rid of it.

thank you: kde 4.6.3 / qt 4.8
by Reindl Harald
thanks for the kde 4.7 repo for F15!
i recently tried QT 4.8 from the kde-unstable and until now
it seems to work smoothly - will this be part of the kde47
repo after it leaves the rc-state?
wondering that kde 4.3.7 works with a newer qt-version
without rebuild - a good sign

Downgrading KDEPIM
by John Aldrich
Can I add the F15 repos and downgrade KMail? I REALLY don't like KMail 2. It's
slower than molasses at the North Pole in January and it's a huge resource hog
to boot. I absolutely HATE the new version and if I can't go back to a version
that works, I'll have to find a new email client! :(
