yaWP weirdness (shrinking size on every kde login)
by José Abílio Matos
Hi,
we all know that after the Americans went to the Moon the weather is
changing. ;-)
Nothing new there. :-)
What is new, at least to me, is that after the last update the y aWP
applet is shrinking every time I restart kde, at a constant rate (unlike
the universe expansion that is accelerating).
Every time I open kde the applet gets smaller. This happens on two
different machines so it does not seems to be something specific to this
computer.
Is there any else seeing this? This is really bizarre by any
account. :-)

QML Plasmoids
by Sven Lankes
Hi,
while updating the skrooge rpm to the current release I found
the following two files:
/usr/share/kde4/apps/plasma/plasmoids/adviceapplet-qml/contents/ui/main.qml
/usr/share/kde4/apps/plasma/plasmoids/adviceapplet-qml/metadata.desktop
Looks like skrooge would have the first qml-plasmoid that would be
shipped by a fedora package (unless I'm searching in the wrong places).
Two questions:
- I guess we need to /usr/share/kde4/apps/plasma/plasmoids owned by
the right rpm (kde-filesystem?)
Could someone with the appropriate commit-rights add that for me?
- Would it make sense to split the two files above out to a separate rpm?

kde-freezes while large USB copy
by Reindl Harald
am i the only one who has the problem that while i copy
large files (vmware-images) on an external USB disk that
kde most of the time stucks for some seconds?
switch to a terminal with CTRL+ALT+F2 works fine without
any delays, switching back to GUI also but it does not get
refreshed - only the mouspointer is available
ehis feels like with F14 on this hardware where this
freezes happnde dpermanently without any reason
really frustrating on a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz
with 16 GB RAM because on this hardware freezes are unexpected

Display issues
by John Aldrich
Help! My system thinks the highest resolution I can get is 1024x768, but I
*know* my system can do 1280x1024 as I did it back when I ran Fedora 15. I've
got an nVidia Geforce card (built into the motherboard) and I have installed
the nVidia drivers in place of the Noveau drivers, but I still can't boost the
screen resolution.
Can someone PLEASE help me figure out why this changed and how to fix it?
Thanks!

Freshclam problems
by Anne Wilson
On my server, running CentOS 6, I've started getting messages like
No updates detected in the log for the freshclam daemon (the
ClamAV update process). If the freshclam daemon is not running,
you may need to restart it. Other options:
etc...
and
/etc/cron.daily/freshclam:
ERROR: Problem with internal logger (UpdateLogFile =
/var/log/clamav/freshclam.log).
ERROR: Can't open /var/log/clamav/freshclam.log in append mode (check
permissions!).
This began after an update, and I've changed nothing in the configs. Freshclam
ran without problems before the update, but I'm struggling to sort this out.
First, then, can you tell me what permissions freshclam.log should have?
Currently it is owned clamav:clamav with rw access for clamav. I read that
freshclam is launched by root, but then drops to an unprivileged user - is
clamav that user?
What other checks should I be making?

Amarok not playing mp3
by Tayfun Kayhan
I've the problem that Amarok cannot play mp3 files and claims that phonon-backend installation must be fixed. It tries to load the package MPEG-1 mp3 decoder but cannot do it. However, all necessary libs are installed and VLC player can play mp3 files without problem. I've googled and tried everything suggested, but could not achieve this one. Any help is appreciated. I'm on Fedora 16 - KDE, fully updated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks
by Roy Smith
Hi All
Apologies if this an inappropriate forum to post this.
I just want give a shout out to the chaps responsible for KDE/Fedora 16.
After years of being a happy Gnome user (initially on Fedora and for the
last few years on Ubuntu), I had two rugs pulled from under me by Ubuntu's
half baked Unity and Gnome's fully baked, but ill-conceived Gnome 3. I was
in a real quandry, and spent a lot of hours trying to cling on to Gnome 2,
but to no avail. I turned to Kubuntu, which seemed to fit the bill, but
felt ponderous and laggy.
This week I gave KDE/Fedora a go, and I absolutely love it. Everything I
liked about Gnome 2 with Compiz, plus a whole bunch of intelligent optional
extras. And it totally flies. I predict a stampede of interest towards
KDE/Fedora over the coming months. In fact I'll even bet a friendly fiver
that KDE will be more popular than Gnome within a few months.
Thanks guys for a job well done.
best

KMail "Find messages" failure
by Timothy Murphy
Fedora-16 KMail2 is 98% OK for me now,
but there is one small problem.
I wonder if anyone else has met it?
When I use Tools=>Find Messages
this works fine if I specify the Subject,
but not if I specify From,
which seems to give random answers.
Usually it doesn't find any instances,
but sometimes it finds a subset.
I checked with Fedora-15.
and that always gives the correct response.
It may be connected with the fact that
>From (the message sender) was not shown on my email lists
when I first upgraded to Fedora-16;
I had to add it - with Anne Wilson's help -
by right-clicking on the bar at the top of the email list.

Quick review of Plasma Active 1.0 patches
by Juan Carlos Torres
Greetings,
As suggested by Rex Dieter, I'm sharing my notes about the patches for Plasma
Active 1.0 [1] and whether they can be possibly be included in the KDE
packages.
Patch for kde-runtime:
active-development-4.7-diff.patch
- basically removes ActivityManager. Unfortunately it also lumps together some
(binary) changes to the docs and localization changes to .desktop files.
- We already have this change in Fedora so this can safely disregard this
patch.
Patches for kde-workspace:
Patches already in KDE git master (for 4.8 release). These can probably be
safely included.
fix-wetab-power-button-freeze.patch
- single patch that combines Revision 94b134f9, Revision 098b163b, and
Revision f5162387 in master
nepomuksearch-566052f0.diff
- Revision 566052f05846735777a091cf791639428597b40e
Patches in KDE git but in specific branches.
ksplash-qml.diff
- adds a QML-based KSplash engine. It's in the Active/1.0 branch, Revision
d190b6e78757a8c23faaaf09b97c482d91c1ba5f
- From a cursory reading, it looks safe to add in.
wac-html-widgets.patch
- from plasma/mart/wac-appletscript branch only, Revision
91e1d8bb5a1c69bb2c0e671c680a03685c3b4254
- seems to be ok, but not really overly important I guess. Can be skipped.
kwin-screenlocker.diff
- also from Active/1.0 branch, Revision
94e2aeae6d757d029f4900f5150feb8a9ac5473b. Unfortunately, this is still being
discussed and is a bit problematic. It might be safe to skip this for now.
Other patches, not in KDE git.
kwin-check-opengl.diff
- not really sure what this does. Haven't gotten a reply yet from the #active
channel on IRC.
disable-infocenter-pci.diff
disable-kcontrol-keys.diff
- disables building of the PCI Module in KInfoCenter and kcm_keys KControl
module respectively. I'm still not sure why it's done for Plasma Active, but
definitely doesn't make sense for a regular desktop. Seems safe to skip.
Hope that helps a bit. :)
