Intenet access with LiveCD?
by Jim Dever
Hi,
I was excited to see the release of the Fedora LiveCD as I'm looking
around at different distributions but for some reason I can't get it to
see my internet connection at all.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
NIC: Cnet PRO200WL PCI (not wireless)
Router: Linksys RTP300
Output of ifconfig:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:80:AD:79:95:90
inet addr: 192.168.15.102 Bcast: 192.168.15.255 Mask: 255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::280:adiff:fe79:9590/64 Scope: Link

RX bytes: 2597 (2.5 KiB) TX bytes: 0 (0.0 b)

-----
I noticed that it says UP but not RUNNING.
The Ubuntu LiveCD access the internet just fine so I know it's possible
to MAKE it work. I just like to see it work before making room for a
full install.
I've used Linux before but it's been ages ago and before I had a NIC so
I'm pretty new to this part.
Any help would be appreciated!

How to clone a HD install onto a livecd?
by Lars Bjørndal
I've used Dirk Westfal's article which describes how to create a
Fedora 4 livecd, to create my own customized livecd. It worked fine up
to FC5 with kernel 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5. While trying to boot a FC6
livecd with the latest 2.6.19 kernel, it didn't boot.
Do anyone knows if the RPMs that are used in this article are updated,
and may be downloaded from anywhere?
Unfortunately the livecd-creator seems not to be able to do what I
want, or is it?

Setting video resolution on boot up
by Mailbox99
Hello,
When I try to boot the LiveCD, my monitor shows that the resolution
is too high / out of specification. I end up with a blank screen and
have no way of accessing Fedora.
I tried booting with the installer option of "resolution=1024x768",
but the LiveCD appears to not accept that command.
Video card is a Matrox P650, the monitor is a Compaq V75, CPU: P4,
2.8 GHz, 1 GB ram.
Question: Does the installer check the monitor resolution on boot up?
Thanks

Good download and burn but unsuccessful boot
by Walt Haas
Hi All,
I downloaded the FC 6 live CD ISO from the official Red Hat download
directory and verified the sha1sum. Then I burned the ISO to a CD using
cdrecord, which had no complaints about the burn. However when I boot
from this CD, the boot process gets through uncompressing the kernel
then says something to the effect that /dev/root does not exist, I need
to create a symlink and it drops me into a shell. And sure
enough, /dev/root does not exist.
The hardware is a pretty plain vanilla old Pentium with half a gig of
ram, parallel IDE and a couple of Adaptec SCSI cards, and the Pioneer
DVD burner that the CD is booted from (which is connected as IDE
secondary master). I've never had a problem booting Knoppix 5 on this
machine. Fedora Core 6 boots from the IDE primary master hard drive
with only one complaint, something about incorrect PBLK length [5] on
ACPI(?), but then goes on to boot and run successfully. When run from
the hard drive, FC 6 /dev/root is a character special device not a
symlink.
Whazzup?
Thanks in advance -- Walt

dual processor
by tony
Hello,
I am seeing some strange behavior with SMP:
- the second CPU isn't active on cold boot, a hot reboot is required.
This is with the 2.6.18-1.2868.fc6 kernel on an abit BP6 with two
Celeron 500s
Can someone please tell me why this is so
Cheers
Tony

Question?
by Adam M. Dutko
I tested if I could eject the livecd after gnome started. I could like I
originally thought I'd be able to: the disc isn't restricted from 'umount'.
As one might imagine, this caused my machine to lockup--hard. This is
probably something we should address at FUDCon, in addition to which kernel
modules should be included on the disk, instead of statically defining.
Thoughts???

Re: [Fedora-livecd-list] Add package eject
by Adam M. Dutko
Vnpenguin,
"No, there is another error in which we see explicitely "command not
found /usr/bin/eject" ..."
The path to the eject command on your system is incorrect. I noticed
these problems when I was building my first few live cd's.
You should be able to modify the mayflower script to /usr/sbin/eject
instead of /usr/bin/eject (note the 'sbin'). It's a path
related issue. As a normal user when you issue 'which eject' it
should show /usr/bin/eject, but as root it will show
'/usr/sbin/eject'.
Odd eh? But that fixed it for me...

x86_64 support
by Brian Cain
This tool is really great! Thanks!
I've got a working x86_64 configuration. I've also made some other
changes that I think make the livecd-creator script a little more
pythonic and added some little features that interested me.
I think I'd like to add support for multiple targets on the same CD at
some point, so I added in some abstractions that might facilitate
that. I also made some tweaks to the exception handling.
Anyways, I've attached it here. The changes to livecd-creator were
big enough that it didn't make enough sense to submit a patch. If I
get a chance later I'll break the x86_64 support into its own patch.
I think I saw some messages about a git repository in the archives.
It wasn't mentioned on http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraLiveCD,
though. Where's a good place to RTFM?

Add package eject
by Vnpenguin
Hi,
There is also a error message when I build livecd with standard
packages list of David's scripts. This error occurs because the script
can not found /usr/bin/eject. By adding package "eject" into the list,
this message disapears :)
I just build a new release of our customized livecd with XFCE desktop.
Here is the list of all package http://vnoss.net/vn2663 . There are
many "non-free" packages on it and the CD was built specially with
Vietnamese support (input method, fonts, customized bookmark & add-ons
of firefox, databases for stardict, ...).
Thanks,
