Has anyone had any success automating the installation of fedora xfce 30. I want to automate the installation of the xfce spin from the live cd. Everything works great with this distribution. I'm installing it so much i need to be able to automate the process. If i try to begin the kickstart process like i normally would with redhat or fedora installation DVD with the options "inst.ks=cdrom:/dev/sr1:/kick.cfg" or something similar it will not run the kickstart process and just start the gui interface. Any help would be appreciated.
Greetings,

I haven't tried to do a kickstart installation in more than a decade. I'm guessing that there are properties about the live media that are a bit challenging for kickstart but I'd love to be wrong about that.
The reason I've lived without it is because I've been making my own respins that are fully updated and have the packages I want preinstalled... and doing a regular install has been pretty efficient that way. In both methods, there always seem to be a few manual config tasks post-install.
When I've wanted to do a bunch of machines at once, usually I just do one system and then using a physical disk cloner (or bootable external hard disk with Clonezilla live and an image storage partition) and clone that. Again, there'll be a little bit of post-clone/install manual config tasks.
Sorry I didn't have a better answer for you. Maybe someone will.
TYL,
Ok thank you. When you it's been your own version of the live CD can you actually get it to partition the discs as well like you would with a Kickstart configuration file? On Fri, Nov 22, 2019, 4:26 PM Scott Dowdle dowdle@montanalinux.org wrote:

Hmm, I haven't looked into that. How I've done that in the past though... was when I had a lot of drives all the same size/make/model... and I just partitioned one the way I liked it and ran an sfdisk command that would output the partition table to a file... which I could use as import to a future sfdisk run to partition the rest of them.
How I've been doing it with my live media... is either manually (if it is a fresh install) or by reusing existing partitions... and often having a separate /home that I don't reformat.
I don't know if that helps or not but it's the best I have. Of course with disk cloning, the partition table was baked in.
TYL,
Ok I'll look into that. Thanks

Ok cool. Thanks for the tip. Never heard of Calamares. I'll look into this.

try: inst.ks=cdrom:/dev/cdrom:/path/to/ks.cfg. it's possible that sr1 is not the proper designation on that particular system. you'll need to drop to a debug terminal/shell and see what the system finds. it would also be helpful to have the rest of the arguments such as inst.stage2, etc.... you should also switch to alt-f2 console and then look at the anaconda logs after it hits the graphical install screen. it's possible that the problem lies in your kickstart file, not in the inst.ks line.
