------- Additional Comments From skasal(a)redhat.com 2007-10-15 12:24 EST -------
It seems that current sv.po does not contain /usr/share/dhcpv6* in any of the
descriptions, it's always /usr/share/doc/dhcpv6*. So from this point of view
the bug is fixed.
But there seem to be some buggy translations where the translation contains
"/usr/share/doc/dhcpv6" even though the original string doesn't. This is why
I'm trying to toss this bug to "Fedora Localization" product.

Self-Introduction: Henrique
by Henrique Junior
Hello, my name is Henrique Junior and I am joining the Fedora Project to
help in internationalization and to spread Fedora here in Brazil.
I am
a user of RedHat systems since RedHat 7 and start using Fedora since Fedora Core 3. With that
I hope I can contribute in the best way possible and be of service to the
Project.
Cordially

Problems comitting translation to pirut
by Miloš Komarčević
Hi Dimitris and Jeremy,
I ran into a problem committing po/sr(a)latin.po to pirut since renaming
sr@Latn to sr@latin.
I ended up with appended translations instead of replaced ones. Tried
refreshing the module cache and committing again but without success.
Any ideas of what's going on?
This is the last message I got from Transifex:
There was a technical error with the commit/push of your submission,
most likely because of a misconfiguration of the system. Try
refreshing the module's cache and retry submitting. The administrators
will look into the log files and try to find out what went wrong.
Thanks,
Miloš

The Fedora Fonts SIG is open
by Nicolas Mailhot
Dear potential SIG contributor,
You're receiving this message because you're subscribed to one of the
general relevant Fedora mailing lists, or because our awesome
minion-finding powers have detected your interest in fonts and text
rendering/layouting in Fedora, EPEL or OLPC¹.
Last month's consultation showed there was enough possible contributors
and needed work to justify creating a Fedora Fonts Special Interest
Group.
To get the ball rolling I've started seeding a Fonts SIG space in the
Fedora wiki:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/Fonts
Recently, the Fedora infrastructure team created us a mailing list to
coordinate SIG activities:
https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-fonts-list
In addition to human posts I intend to get it CCed on every font-related
bug in our bugzilla.
That means we have enough infrastructure to open shop, and I hereby
declare the Fonts SIG born.
If you are interested in the Fonts SIG, please:
— read the wiki, and the proposed Fonts SIG charter,
— subscribe to the mailing list,
— let us know there where you want the SIG to evolve
— and what *you* are ready to contribute to make this evolution happen
(in particular only respond to this message on fedora-fonts-list!)
I've created the SIG but we can make it live. It's not a tool to
implement my personal vision². It's not some sort of public to-do list
either.
Stuff will happen because we make it happen. SIG organisation is only
there to help implement our wishes; I've sadly no access to magical
fairies ready to do the work in our stead.
I hope to find many of you on on the Fonts SIG list!
Regards,
¹ ie you already maintain or co-maintain a fonts-related package in
Fedora (fonts, major text layouting library, font tool…), or made the
mistake to ask about fonts on one of the Fedora lists I read
² Visions are for people standing too long under the sun, and there's
been a distinct lack of it here recently

Complicated Procedure, Restricted Wiki
by big one
I want to help in Fedora translation project, but unfortunately there is no languange coordinator for a certain language.
The procedure for becoming a language coordinator is difficult/complicated and I don't have the time/ skill.
I suggest other methods:
1. One person or a group of local users fluent in the language become initial user group who screened translation result. The person who want to do the translation can send the "*.po" file to the team using e-mail attachment (text inside zip file). If the team agree, the "*.po" file is accepted as official translation.
2. Protection for name / email address of the translators from spam.
3. Restricted Wiki: the translator can apply for user name and password and the tranlator can do the modification online. If the result is incorrect / bad, the translator may be banned / the user id revoked.
Is the above idea possible?
A question: If I have a complete set of tranlated "*.po" files for certain language, where should I sent the files to, if there is no language coordinator?
Thank you.

Minor update to Docs README
by Paul W. Frields
I had to make a small change to the Docs README module, changing the
directory name "Fedora" to "Packages" to accurately reflect how the
distribution tree looks now. This caused fuzziness in 5 strings in
existing PO files, although the changes are very small and simple to
update. I apologize for the additional changes. Thanks again everyone.

TQSG Chapter 3 and 4 are ready for proofreading
by Noriko Mizumoto
Hi Paul
Thank you so much for your modification on Chapter 2.
Now rest of chapters are ready for proofreading.
Chapter 3 Translating Software
Chapter 4 Translating Documentation
For Chapter 4, I need someone in Docs team who understands the procedure
of 'Translating Documentation' well to give a proofread. This is
essential chapter for whom he/she wants to translate the document under
docs/ directory such as Release Note for FC8.
Could you kindly have a look this chapter as well?
/me is assuming that Dimitris is working on the chapter of 'Translating
Software'.
Many thanks
noriko

Re: Online translation tool?
by Alexandru Szasz
Pootle runs as a server (rather hard to integrate) and because it
reads po's from the hdd, many users can really put a load on the
server.

Localization of "Mailing List info Page"?
by Mustafa Qasim
Hello!
I want to localize the mailing list info page for Urdu mailing list
but want to know
- Is it allowed to localize/edit a mailing list info page according to
administrator's wish?
- Is it available on CVS? The online editor availabe in Admin. area
isn't the right tool for doing that.

Release Notes for F8 final
by Paul W. Frields
The Release Notes have been completed for F8 final. I know that many of
the translation teams are already working on them, since I see your
commits coming in. :-) If there are any further string changes -- and I
expect these would be very few in any case -- those changes will be
synchronized later for a zero-day update.
The latest changes (between 7.92 and the candidate for 8.0.0) are a
little under 60 strings. Thanks are due to Rahul Sundaram, who made a
number of necessary changes while trying to reuse existing strings as
much as possible. I will check on status as we go, although I will
probably not post reports since Dimitris' web application does a more
visually appealing job of that. :-)
*** The deadline for translations is 2359 UTC, 2007-10-22. ***
(refer to http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/Schedule for full
schedule)
Remember that the full fedora-release-notes package includes the
following Docs modules:
* about-fedora
* homepage
* readme
* readme-live
* readme-burning-isos
* release-notes
As we did with F7, any locale with 90% or more strings done will have
the translation included in the F8 general release. (We'd love it if
many of them made 100% though!) Don't hold back since we will do a
zero-day update package. If you make your 90%, keep working over the
remaining time for a 100% goal, and we will have your updates in the new
RPM as well.
Please don't hesitate to contact us with questions, either here or at
fedora-docs-list(a)redhat.com. Good luck and thank you everyone!
